"So... how do we do this?" Cassie asked. She looked at me and part of me just couldn't shake the feeling like she could see somehow.

"Well, do you have something of Jack's? Maybe a blanket he likes to lay on or a leash?"

"He usually sleeps on my feet and I don't really like putting him on a leash. We kind of just share everything. I mean I understand he's a dog, but I don't really treat him that way."

"What about something you both like?"

"I brought his favorite movie."

"Don't tell me, Teen Wolf... Marley and Me... Lassie?" I laughed thinking about a dog having a favorite movie.

"No, it's Karate Kid, the original one. Why did you list a bunch of dog movies? Do you only watch movies about narcissistic teenagers with super powers?"

"Okay fair enough. And yes, that might work."I couldn't help it. I laughed. So she's actually kinda feisty. I like it.

Cassie got up and went into her bedroom. I settled on the couch next to where I knew she would come back and sit down. I sighed to myself. It really wasn't fair to force her to use such an advanced form of telepathy so soon after finding out that, no, she wasn't a crazy dog-voice hearing psychopath. The thing was, if she could locate Jack using this technique, then she was strong. Was I manipulating her intense emotional state of being to enhance that power for my own eventual benefit... Maybe, but if she could pull it off, then she gets what she wants too. Her best friend back, safe and sound.

Regardless of what my father initially thought, if I could bring a high-level Psychic back, especially one that could use psychometric telepathy with little instruction, I'd be in the good books for months. Maybe even until graduation.

All of my unknown finds over the last year, since I started being allowed to leave on my own, have been one-trick ponies. A firestarter, teleporter, a couple strongmen and a lizard girl, do not a proud father make... Not to mention that bringing a real, bona-fide Telepath into the mix without the Order getting wind of it was a feat that no one had accomplished in my lifetime. The last Telepath we'd gotten was a grifter named Emily. She'd been using her powers for years with great success because she never stayed in one place too long. The Order knew of her, but just could never seem to be in the right place at the right time. My father on the other hand pursued her with almost all of his resources. Eventually he trapped her using her own tricks. He set up a con-game to entice her and let her fall in of her own accord. Emily was so impressed that she just shook my father's hand and signed up for the struggle. That was 8 years ago.

Cassies came back with a DVD case and set it down on her lap as she sat on the couch.

"Okay, so have you ever heard of psychometry?"

"That's like using a murder weapon to find the killer."

"Wow, yea, that's it exactly. How do you know this stuff?"

"I like to read."

"Well, you're right. It's using an item that has a resonance or an imprint on it. A killer would have strong emotions when using a knife to murder someone, so he would leave some of the emotion behind. It's kind of like psychic residue. The thing about items is that they don't care whether the emotion is good or bad. So a favored movie will still have an emotional imprint on it. How the person feels when he watches sort of lingers."

"I get it. So we're going to use the emotional leftovers to find Jack."

"Right. Usually it's to find the history of an item. You learn significant events centered around it, but this time we're going to use it locate and connect with Jack. You already have a strong bond with him, so it will make it easier. So just hold the DVD gently in your hands and think about the last time you and he watched the movie together. Now focus solely on Jack. Think about the way his fur feels and how comfortable you feel when he's with you. You're on a couch with him now watching The Karate Kid. It's his favorite part of the movie! You smile as he wags his tail in appreciation. He's with you now, where are you?"
