Ryvyen woke up with a cold sweat, eyes burning from the radiating heat of the fire. He rubbed his eyes; he felt blood on his right cheek. How long was I out, and what happened? Thoughts and questions swirled inside his head like a hurricane.
"GET UP! WE NEED TO GO NOW! RYV!" Someone yelled up ahead of him. Who was that? A person dressed in a bandana, grey jeans and shoes, white, blood stained shirt, and a blue beanie cap, ran to Ryvyen's side.
"They're coming, they're coming. We have to leave, now, now." The man had bandages on his right arm. Ryvyen felt a sharp pain in his back, all up his spine. He screamed in agony.
"Can you move, walk, hobble, anything?" The man asked. Ryvyen just recognized the man as Daniel Hawethorne; his best friend since the 7th grade. Ryvyen moved both his legs up to signal he can move.
"Good, let's go. Now!" Daniel ordered. He helped Ryvyen to his feet, then they both hobbled away from the scene. Ryvyen looked back. He saw a minivan with armored plates all over it. It was smashed into a building, on fire. He felt as if the fire was a beacon for something. Then he saw them.
Off in the distance, something was running, gaining speed at an alarming rate. It was headed for the fire, but it was followed by more and more. About seventy of them.
"We'll be safe, they'll be drawn to the fire." Daniel said. "Right now, we need to find shelter. There should be some in the next town."
So, with that, Daniel and Ryvyen hobbled into the night, away from whatever was tearing into the van.
