Chapter 1- Loud and clear
It is the year of 1947, two years after the horrendous Second World War. Private McGuffey was a soldier indeed and did not back down from a fight. The main reason why he fought was because he wanted to make England safe for his wife and two children. He was such a caring fellow but sadly all great things come to an end of some sort. He was proud to be both a father and a marine as he meant not only was he fighting for his country he was also fighting for the safety of his family. His wife Miralda was no older than he and adored McGuffey greatly. They would always tuck their children in and he was such a good father to them. Unfortunately they would not see their beloved father any time soon as something major had occurred.
McGuffey took himself to go see a marine psychiatrist as he needed to get the stress and depression from without his darkened mind. He could not seem to smile anymore as the arms of depression caught him whilst he was falling. A man in a black suit walked in. He was finely cut, like a man of wax, but he lacked in sympathy. "Are you McGuffey?" He asked but his voice was monotone. No smile to greet him. No reassuring look to make McGuffey feel as if he hadn't lost his mind, no he simply just asked for his name. "I'm Mr Fletcher I'll be working with you today. No sit back and relax as you tell me what brought you to my office." The man waved his arm to the chair that he invited to his patient. My Fletcher did not smile nor looked in any good condition to be handling people who think they have lost it so this elephant filled the room. Why was he there if he was in such a bad condition himself? Does he truly care about the lives of others? Or is he only doing this to get a pay rise. Nonetheless the man was there and listening. "Well? Are you going to just waste my time or are you going to talk about what's making you feel so crazy?" Dr Fletcher started to become agitated as McGuffey's anxiety went through the roof. "Okay doctor it all started a few years ago."
Chapter 2- Flashback
It was the year of 1942. A letter was sent to the McGuffey's home and it was urgent. They wanted McGuffey to help his hand by fighting in the war again Germany. He had turn the age of thirty three and was not scared to lose his life to show what honour he was given. His wife however found it sickly as she would miss her husband so. But alas he had to leave as his fate of his country depending on him playing his part. Michael and Elizabeth were playing downstairs at this point so they had no idea that their loved father was going out to war.
Michael was twelve at the time and wanted to show his father how proud he wanted to make him. He always would look after his baby sister and if she was ever hurt he would be the most caring brother to him. He was quite tall for his age and he had the most heart-warming smile. McGuffey loved his son so much and knew that when he came back his son would look up to him as a role model. However he though this Michael already saw his father as the best role model he could ever be. Whilst McGuffey was sorting out the bills to pay the rent for their house his son would mimic him which always brought him happiness.
Elizabeth on the other hand was a sweet, kind eight year old girl who would always be with her mother. They used to be in the kitchen cooking and cleaning together all day until Elizabeth had to go to sleep. She loved her mother and her father all so much. One time she came back from school with a card screaming "Mummy Mummy, Daddy look what I made you!" It was only a card saying I love you all with all my heart. It was flooded with glitter and pink but it meant so much to them both. She would always spend time with everyone equally so nobody felt unwanted by here and she was quite mature for her age. She was very intelligent and got the highest in her class almost every time. McGuffey and his wife loved both their children so very much. It is a harmful shame that he now had to go to war.
Nonetheless he grabbed what he needed as there was a list attached onto this letter telling him what he needed to bring with his person. Tears filled up their eyes as he waved goodbye and that was the last they say from him for three years. It was so fortunate that he did not tell them what pain, what horrors he had to endure through those three years of pain. He got into a cab and was to meet everyone at the base camp.
Finally he arrived but sadly he was a few minutes later than expected which was not a good first impression. McGuffey walked through the metal mesh gates and was immediately asked for his name and what his purpose was. "Private McGuffey ah?" The man said whilst judging the new recruitment. "You won't last three seconds in there, you know that McGuffey." The man laughed and pointed to bunker three. "That's where you'll be staying. Now go! Before I make you pay for being so late." McGuffey sped off as soon as the man stopped talking. The bunker was rusting from the inside out. Men were bare backed and sore as they were told time and time again to make their beds until they could do it in their sleep. A sergeant walked towards McGuffey and asked, "What's your roll here private?" He did the same eye judgement the first man did, however McGuffey was not taking that same tone again. "To protect and serve my family, my country and my honour." The sergeant was truly shocked as no man, no private had the balls to say those three emotion full words. "You make me proud privet McGuffey. But that doesn't mean you get to slouch off whilst these do their work. Now get to it!"
Every day and night McGuffey trained to be the best. He would not quit not matter the cause. Miralda, the children, his country was his goal to protect them all with his life. He did not cower nor ever ran away and would always fight for his rights. It was one of the many things that made McGuffey one of the finest soldiers as he had spirit. The courage of a thousand men and would never back down in the face of war. The sergeant walked past him with that same judgemental look. "Private McGuffey?" He asked with such a croaked voice.
"Here sir." McGuffey had replied to him. No private had the guts to ever speak back to a sergeant. But alas McGuffey did not care. He was strong, independent and would not worry about any pain or suffering he had to endure. The sergeant then told McGuffey that he must do fifty push ups in order to stay a soldier, but McGuffey thought that as a challenge. The more push ups he would do the stronger he would become. Therefore he would do at least fifty push ups each morning. Each morning he would grow stronger so he could become a better private, a better fighter, a better winner.
Suddenly the troops were called for an emergency meeting at the main base building. McGuffey was startled at first but quickly got himself ready for the situation. "The damn Germans are going to try and take over Poland! Are we just going to sit here and do nothing or are we going to do something about it." The man in charge ordered and shouted as his wife was in Poland when the information was passed through. The marines all shouted no and off the train they went.
Chapter 3 – Trainer beats the trainee
Ever since the information about German trying to invade Poland Private McGuffey trained every day and night. He would not stop for any costs. Some days he would starve himself just to get those extra minutes of training. He was given a trainer to help him through his training and become stronger, better, faster and better know ledged of his enemy. "Right McGuffey are we ready for today's session? It's going to be a hard one." The trainer was very small but was well toned. Nothing got in his way and would always push McGuffey to his absolute limit. "Sure are sir." So then their training began. He climbed ropes, jumped over walls, marched and learnt everything for three solid weeks. Those weeks became surprisingly easier for McGuffey as he would get better at the tasks given.
Finally the day had arrived where McGuffey set his heart to beat his trainer to his own game. "Are you ready toady McGuffey?"
"Sure yes sir." Before the trainer could even finish his sentence McGuffey was off already doing his daily activities.
Nobody could stop McGuffey in his tracks. He was strong, intelligent and one of the most successful privates in his whole squad. Everybody looked up to him, even some of the sergeants as they had never seen a private so ready for the violence and horrors of war. The trainer watched McGuffey train daily so he knew how much progress he made in a day. It was a lot for one person to do. He became stronger every step he took. If Miralda could see him now she would be so proud. Michael would look to him not only as a father, not only as a role model, but also the town's hero. Finally the three weeks of never-ending training had come to an end and finally McGuffey could rest after all the hard work he put himself through.
Suddenly McGuffey awoke at quick pace as his trainer woke him up. "Listen private. I've seen you out there working your arse off. Do you even think for a moment you could beat me? I'm the strongest in this whole damn place. I've not once been beaten so I challenge you in hand to hand combat on the training ground in fifteen minutes. Get ready to get your arse kicked private." This opportunity made McGuffey's face glow with excitement as he was so desperate so show that he was better. He grabbed his clothes, got dressed and was ready to fight is opponent.
