I woke up in a white room to a horrible pain in my stomach.
By now, I'm used to seeing the plain ceiling of room 322, and smelling the overused hand sanitizer and chemical mix.
I hate the hospital.
I glanced down at the white sheets, trying to keep my eyes from reaching my arms, and trying to distract myself from the pain.

Aren't you curious?

The voice forced my head to the side, and laughed as I saw all the tubes and wires sticking out of my arms. The only thing that helped calm me down was the Beep beep beep of my heart monitor. I reached up and touched the cool gauze that was rapped around my forehead, and winced when it caused more pain to explode from my stomach.

They control you just as much as I do. You're just an experiment to them.

Just as I realized it was right, the nurse rushed in. "How you doin sweetie?" She asked me in a real southern accent. I glanced up long enough to get a good look at her curly black hair and dark skin and finally asked, "My parents......."
She nodded sadly, and I felt a few tears slip from my face. She came closer and unhooked a tube in my arm from a bag of fluid, and walked over to the other end of the room. As I wiped the tears from my face, she opened a baby blue cabinet and retrieved a new bag of greenish fluid, and opened a small window by my bed. "Whats your name?" I asked her as she hooked up the tube to the fluid baggy thing. She looked at me and smiled. "Zoey," she answered. "And you are patient 322, Alexia White."  I frowned. She acted like I wasn't even a person.

Because you aren't a person, you're a monster.

I could feel the blackness swirl into my eyes, but I fought back. The nurse jumped and rushed to another bag already attached to one of my tubes with reddish liquid inside. She squeezed it and looked at me in fright as the fluid flew through the tube and into my right arm. My heart monitor went crazy, and I blacked out.

I woke up to a doctor unhooking the bags of liquid from the tubes and taking the wires out of my arms. "You're awake," he stated slowly. After he finished and my arms were normal again, he sighed. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions, Lexi, but let me tell you this; we put you to sleep for five days so your stomach could heal. Your head has healed enough that we removed the stitches,  but your stomach still requires them." He paused, and then continued, "Since you need help until your stomach heals, we found you someone to say with." I sucked in a breath, waiting. "You will be living with Riley Nickerson."

The two year old birthday girl. This complicates things.
