I have always stood out and there are many reasons for that. I'm not entirely what someone would call usual. I used the word usual because there is really no definition of normal.
I walk into Sawyer's office.
"You wanted to see me sir?" I say as I sit in the chair by his desk a crossed from him.
"Yes that's correct," his raspy voice replies as he looks up at me from his book.
I glance down to see the title and realize it's still opened to the page he was reading.
"Jemma came to see me, Asher," he tells me.
"Yeah, and what did she say?" I ask.
"Well a while back I told her I was looking for people to come with me," he paused to think,"to somewhere and she came yesterday, and she suggested you."
I look straight into his light grey eyes,"And where is somewhere exactly?"
"Asher I'm afraid that you won't like the answer to that," he says with concern clear in his voice.
"Sir can you please answer my question? Where is somewhere?" I repeat.
"Alright Asher, Jemma suggests that you join me on a trip to the upper world," his voice turns to a whisper when he said upper world.
"Why are you going up there?" I asked shocked.
"I need to go and find someone that goes by the name Ryan." He said.
"And why me?" I ask," Why should I go with you?"
I was honestly very irritated.
"Jemma thought_" he starts, but I cut him off.
"Jemma seems to have a fucking lot to share!" I yell.
"She just thought_" he starts again, but I shove myself out of the chair and throw his office door open and let it slam behind me.
I walk down the hall in search of Jemma and Stella's room.
Once I find their door I knock once then throw it open. Stella looks at me.
"Where the hell is Jemma?!" I ask with my voice risen.
"She's in the cafeteria," she says back scared.
I groan I leave the bedroom. I storm down the hall. Where we live is not a school or anything close to a school. It's a house to over 500 people that aren't normal. I walk into the kitchen and spot Jemma sitting with a couple other girls. I march up to the table and stare at her.
She smiles,"yes?"
The other girls with her laugh at her trying to pull off an innocent look.
"What the hell!" I yell at her.
They stop laughing and her smile drops,"look I thought_"
I cut her off,"From what I've heard In the last twenty minutes is showing that you think way to damn much!"
"Look okay I was thinking," I was about to cut her off again, but she held up her hand and continued,"that you could see your family again."
My eyes glanced at everyone at the table then back at her. Everyone was staring at me waiting for my reply, but I didn't know what to say. Jemma knew not to talk about my family, but I'm not upset that she did.
I finally say softly,"But what if they don't like me?"
"Then they don't and they are missing out on an amazing asshole!" She said confidently.
I smile then nod,"okay I'll go and see. I mean I can't sit here wondering what there like forever!"
"See that's the spirit!" She laughs.
"You could have talked to me first!" I yell as I walk away from the table.
I decided I need to go talk to Sawyer, because the way I left and treated him wasn't very nice. Sawyer was the leader of our tribe. He was old and had a lot of wisdom. He was also the strongest person in the underworld.
I enter his office and see he's reading again. He looks up as I close his office door.
"Your back," he says as I sit where I was earlier.
"I talked to Jemma," I start,"And I decided that I want to come with you. To the upper world I mean."
Shock covered his face, but he quickly replaced it with a smile,"I'm so glad to here that!"
I pierce my lips,"And I'm sorry about earlier."
"Oh son I don't blame you. You had every right to react the way you did."
I nod not knowing what to say.
Then he closes the book and hands it to me," study it for our trip!"
I nod and get up and leave his office. I look at the title of the book that I'd been curious about earlier. In gold letters the book said Darkness Enters The World.
