One year later
Derek's POV

I smiled at Prim as I helped her over the small creek, her hands holding onto my forearms like a lifeline. Chuckling as I watched as she tip toes on the stones before jumping onto the other side where I was. She looked up and me and gave me a smile, her eyes sparkling with happiness and joy. I smiled down at her grabbing her hand before I turned around and led her to where I had her birthday surprise.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going?" She asked me. Chucking I shook my head and glanced back at her before facing the front.
"No, it's a surprise." I told her. Just a little further...

As we came out of the trees Prim gasped as she took in the view, it was a small clearing near the edge of a cliff that overlooked Beacon Hills that glowed in the darkness. I had set up a picnic blanket and had spread out all of Prim's favourite foods and a bottle of soda, there was fairy lights hanging from the trees around us so we had enough light to see and eat properly but not too much.
"Happy Fourteenth Birthday" I said.
"Oh Derek is beautiful." Prim told me as she took it all in, she turned to face me and squeezed my hand. I smiled at her leaning down and kissing her forehead.
"Only the best for my Rose." I told her almost proudly. We sat on the blanket and ate the food and drank the soda, when we finished that we just laid on the blanket looking at the stars that where out tonight.

Prim suddenly yawned snugging more into my side, I tightened my hold around her waist and nosed my nose into her hair breathing in her sent.
"Go to sleep my Rose, I'll protect you. I'll always protect you no matter what." I whispered into her hair as she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. I watched her sleep for a while, watching there chest rise and fall slowly as she slept peacefully.
"Love you my Rose, so so much."

I huffed as Prim suddenly jumped on my back, her legs latching onto my waist her arms wrapping around my neck. I grabbed her legs to steady her and to keep her from falling back, Prim giggled in my ear making me shiver.
"I'm not too heavy?" She asked innocently in my ear, her breath on my neck. Twisting my head to look at her I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Is that even a question?" I asked her, watching as she laughed. Prim shook her head at my question before resting her chin in between my neck and shoulder.

I carried her down the street, people smiling at us with a knowing look. Suddenly a woman around nineteen crashed into my shoulder making me start to fall towards the ground, falling backwards. Quickly I grabbed Prim and pulled her so she was cuddled to my chest as I fell onto my back, the air left my lungs and for a second I was winded before I realised that my Rose might be hurt. Quickly I sat up, still cradling Prim to my chest, and looked her over for any injuries that might have harmed her. I swear if she had so much as a scratch on her-

"Oh I'm so sorry!" My head snapped up to see a pretty woman around nineteen with blonde hair looking down at us, quickly I stood up and placed Prim beside me wrapping an arm around her waist as she clung to my shirt. One look over her told me she was an Argent, one of the hunters. "Names Kate Argent." Those words just confirmed what I already knew. I felt Prim stiffen up at the last name, she knew that Argents where werewolf hunters and how dangerous they can be.

"It's no problem, but next time watch where your walking." I told her stiffly, Kate frowned at my arm that was wrapped around Prim's waist but put on a fake smile when I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Who might you be?" Kate purred at me, coming a few steps closer, and I took one back.
"Why should I tell you?" I asked coldly, pushing Prim now fully behind me. Kate smirked wickedly at the movement but didn't do anything else.

"Because is polite." Kate told me, plastering a fake flirtatious smile on her face. I growled lowly and took another few steps back, taking any precaution to keep Prim safe.
"Derek." I told her coldly before pushing Prim in front of me as I quickly ushered her past the Argent, my chest pressed into her back as I took long strides away form the Argent that was capable of harming my mate.

I walked Prim home after the meeting with the Argent, after watching as she walked into the house I just aimlessly walked around her street. Never going to far so I could always hear Prim's heartbeat, which at the moment was steady. At 12am I finally went home as the feeling that something was about to happen formed in the pit of my stomach. If anything happened to Prim, if anyone laid so much as a finger on her I'd tear them apart with my bare hands. I fell asleep, the last thing on my mind was my Rose.

~

I smiled at Prim as I walked her towards our table outside, it was a lovely sunny day at school. We talked about school, werewolves, and upcoming assessments.
"I just really hate Mr Harris." She told me as she chewed the inside of her cheek. Her eyes suddenly flew to my thoughtful face. "Don't you dare." She warned me, I gave her my best innocent look.
"What?"
"You know what, remember the last time you did something to Mr Harris?" She asked me, I frowned slightly as I remembered the memory.
"He was asking for it." I told her.

Flashback

"Derek!" I looked up to see Prim running towards me, tears flowing down her cheeks. Immediately I held her to my chest, stroking her hair and shushing her as she cried. After a few minutes I pulled her away to catch the slowly forming bruise that was forming on her wrist.
"Who did this to you?" I growled as I held up her wrist, anger in my tone and eyes. Prim didn't have to answer as Mr Harris came around the corner.
"Miss McCall!" He shouted as he jogged towards us.

As my mind connected the dots I growled softly, pushing Prim behind me putting me between her and Mr Harris. Said teacher glared at me when I didn't move as he stood in front of me.
"Move Mr Hale." He ordered me, but I refused to move an inch.
"You hurt Prim." I growled, my tone almost more wolf then human. At this point I was shaking to control my wolf side, my wolf was in rage that someone should hurt my mate and was super pissed. Prim noticing this placed her small hand in my own making me relax slightly.

"Now Mr Hale, it's really none you your business I ju-"
"It is my business!" I roared, cutting off whatever Mr Harris was about to say. "You hurt Prim, therefore it is my business." I told him. Mr Harris's face twisted into one of anger.
"You don't own Miss McCall, therefore it's not you business." He told me smugly, obviously not seeing the loophole.
"But it is her mothers business, and my mother happens to be friends with Mrs McCall." I stated, enjoying the way Mr Harris's face paled. He knew he could lose his job for harming a student, and since Prim was the person he did it to there was no way to cover it up if we did tell Prim's mother.

"You wouldn't dare." He said, obviously underestimating what I would do for my Rose.
"I think your underestimating what I'll do for Prim." I growled. Anger flooded though me as I started shaking even more, the next thing I knew Mr Harris was stumbling back holding his nose as blood dropped from it. At the same time the Principal had just walked down the hallways and caught me in the act.
"Mr Hale!" I turned my head to look at him, my eyes narrowed slightly. "Detention!"

I growled but nodded, Prim grasped my hand in hers. Tugging me down the hall and away form Mr Harris.
"You didn't have to do that." She told me, I smiled softly at her.
"Well who else is going to protect you?" I asked her, Prim looked up and gave me a 'Really' look.
"You still shouldn't have gotten in trouble for me, I'm not worth it."
"Prim, look at me." I ordered, slowly Prim looked up at me. "Don't think that your not worth anything. You my Rose are worth more then the whole world combined." I told her. "I would do anything for you."

End of Flashback

"Derek?" I snapped out of the memory to find Prim looking at me concerned. "You spaced out for a second there."
"I'm fine." I told her, resting my head on her cheek smiling at her.

Suddenly the sound of heavy footsteps made both of us look up to see the Sheriff walking towards us with a grim expression on his face.
