Imagine joining Kili after BOTFA

This is set after the BOTFA - in this version, no one died - cos I didn't want the line of Durin to die either

You quickly pushed your way to the front of the crowd, just as Fili and Kili were getting ready to leave on their quest to reclaim Erebor

'Kili.....' you said, as you reached his horse

He turned to look at you

'Y/N.....'

'I know we said our goodbyes already but I had to see you one more time'

He leaned down to caress your cheek

'I know that stone your mother gave you, is a promise for you to return to her, but that goes for me too - make sure you come back to me, don't do anything reckless.' You said pleadingly

'I will return my love, I promise.' Kili said as he rubbed his thumb on your cheek, one last time before he and Fili set off

The crowd dispersed as they set off, while you stayed and watched them leave, until you could see them no more. There was no way to know if you would ever see Kili again and if you did, that he wouldn't be a changed man.

Time passed quickly, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and there had been no word back from the quest. You had no idea if it was successful or if it ended in tragedy. You spent a lot of time with Dis - Fili and Kili's mother, as she was the only other person who knew what you were feeling, only worse, as she had not only her two sons but her brother, all on this journey.

Word finally came, that Smaug had been destroyed and Erebor reclaimed. You were to travel there, as soon as possible, to join Kili and the others, and to help make Erebor the majestic place it once was.

You finally made it to Erebor, after what felt like an eternity. The first thing you did was search for Kili, despite being completely and utterly exhausted. You had to see him, it had been too long. After finding Balin, and having a quick talk with him, you went in search for KIli, finally finding him in the dining hall.

'KILI!' you yelled as you quickly raced up to him

'Y/N!!!!' he got up from the table and raced up to you, throwing his arms around you in a strong embrace. Neither of you wanting to let go, for quite some time. You finally pulled away, holding his face in your hands, brushing his hair behind his ears

'Oh Y/N, I missed you'

'I missed you too.' You leaned in to kiss him

He put his forehead against yours as he held your hands, that were still on his face

'I'm so glad you are here, I'm not sure I can handle this on my own'

'Handle what? What is it? What's happened?'

'It's Thorin, ever since we got here, he's been affected with the dragon sickness. He's claimed his title as king, but all he does is sit on his throne or go down and walk among the gold. And Fili is worried that the same thing will happen to him. And then it could happen to me'

'Oh Kili, this won't happen to you, think of what you have just been through, you are stronger than this. You won't let this affect you. Thorin will need to see what he has become and change and be the king he needs to be. You and Fili can help him do that, the line of Durin is strong and will get over this'

'Thank you Y/N, you always know what to say, I'm so lucky to have you' as he leaned his forehead onto yours again
