It’s not the fact I didn’t like going on vacations, but if it was with my family then I would rather be burned at the stake being called a witch. Yes, it is that bad. The worst part is that my uncle booked us to an island called ‘Kin Slayer’.

“You do know kin slayer means to kill your family, right”, I began to remark my uncle. I didn’t feel like dying on an island with a creepy name.

“And you know that how Miss Valora,” he began to question me…again.

“Number one; don’t call me ‘miss’! And two I took Latin this year and got an 80 average. The top two scores in my freshman class.”

An awkward silence took over the kitchen once again. Maybe the four hour argument about going to that place may come to an end. Then again I have terrible, terrible luck.

**

“We’re going to an island~! We’re going to an island~! Hot shirtless guys~”

I had to deal with Claire’s constant singing for 3 hours! She wasn’t a good singer at all, trust me. She made birds fall out of the sky or made them poop.

“Could you stop singing for one minute! I heard you repeat those words over and over again for three hours straight! Please, please just stop”, I began to bed for mercy. My poor little ears were going to fall of my pretty little head.

“Now wait a moment Valora, you cannot comment on your sisters singing like that. Your mother was an opera so you never heard anyone else sing before. As if you can sing for yourself”, there goes my aunt again protecting the ‘pride’ of the family. I really don’t understand these people…

“Ok then, just tell me where we’re going then! It feels like you’re kidnapping me”, My back slumped against the car seat. I stared out the car’s window waiting for a reply.

“ Valora how many times do I have to tell you,” my uncle began, “It’s a small island off of New York.”

Still this island does not have a name. For all I know is that it could be full of murderers! If it does play out like a horror movie Claire would be the first to die sad to say. She may be athletic but she’s incredibly stupid. Claire Lake passed all of her standard classes with straight 60’s. That was just enough to keep her out of summer school.

We were traveling down this narrow road going to a port I think because I saw water through the tree’s The scent of sea salt filled the air, it made me purr with enjoyment. Ever since I could remember I loved the smell of nature, especially salt water. If I had a list of my top 3 scents salt water would be number one, then a forest like smell, and for number 3 I probably choose burning wood.

My sense came back intact when my uncle came to a sharp halt. Looking out in front of us was a creeping looking dock. The wood was warped and it looked like it went through to typhoons!

“Uncle Marcy is this even safe to bring luggage let alone walk on it”, raising my eyebrow at him with concern written all over my face.

He sighed and reassured me one last time. This was absolutely horrible; my clairvoyance is telling me to get the hell out of here before I get a panic attack. However a part of me is telling me to be patient and to be confident about the decision I was going to make. My decision was going two ways at this point because of that little girl standing in the water with half her face torn off. Yup, this place was defiantly haunted.

“Valora, get your luggage will you!”, my aunt began to whine.

When she said luggage she meant one duffle bag and a North Face backpack. This is all I need to survive a week. Unlike the rest of my family I was no hoarder. I packed all of the things I think I needed while the rest of them brought 4 bags a junk. And it is four bags per person.

    **

It took about another 30 minutes before a small ferry had arrived. The first thing the creepy old man told us was,

“There is no room for the car. You can leave it right here and I’ll have one of our men take it.”

The thing that confused me was that there was room for a care, maybe even two! The dark bit in my stomach grew but something in me told me to go on and get it over with. There was probably nothing worse than the boat ride there.

The currents were strong for their own good. I’m surprised that the boat didn’t tip over. My uncle is enjoying this like a damn fool, my aunt is sea sick, and Claire is still singing that stupid song. I can’t take this any longer something needs to distract me. And that’s what I got within a second

The scent of blood filled the air. It was too weak for the rest of them to smell it but I could without a problem. All of the sea fog blocked my view to see what was happening around me.

‘I guess I’ll just let all of my senses run free then’, I thought to myself.

Taking one deep breath in I closed my eyes and set myself against the boat’s railing. Instantly I noticed that this place had an aura that could not be read. That meant that something is putting up a blocking spell. These spells are usually to ward off people from a territory that was not supposed to be entered. But why put it here? People must come here on a weekly basis, but if they didn’t I don’t blame them.

There was great spiritual energy here as well. The ones that had more of a dark energy outnumbered the ones with the more lighter energized ones. The word hospital echoed through my head over and over again. So this place must’ve had a hospital, wait no, more like rehabilitation center. Yes that’s what it meant by hospital.

Then the little girl’s faced showed up in my thoughts. She was mumbling something,

     “North…North…Bro…Brother…Isl…Island”

My eyes shot open when the boat came to a crashing stop. The captain sheepishly smiled and rubbed the back of his head,

“Sorry about that the fog is quite dense today,” he apologized before grabbing our stuff and throwing it onto the land.

We gave him our thanks however when it came to my turn he just gave me a dirty look.

‘Watch yourself’, the voice in the back of my head chanted.

And before I knew it, we were stuck on a road. We had no car to travel in and it looked like no one was going to come down our way. The next thing I knew is that we had no map, so that means we have no clue where the house is located. I am surrounded by idiots. They should have been prepared for this to happen, but then again I’m the grown up in this household. I should have been more prepped.

To my left my aunt and uncle were fighting. They were slinging random insults at each other and giving new nicknames. Now this was actually pretty funny since none of their words were making any sense at all.

‘You’ve entered a coven by acting and talking sweet’, these words were singing in my head to a point that it was causing my ears to ring.

‘Are you a threat,’ I kept asking myself cuffing my ears, ‘ASWER ME!’

I lost my temper. The fog around us disappeared into thin air. The pain had finally stopped but a new threat appeared.

A car. A black Chevy pick-up truck appeared out of nowhere. There it was right in front of me almost mocking my presence. The man in the truck was a threat. But no one could see it. No one could feel it other than me.

‘Run Valora! Run! This man is no good! There are better people on this island’

“Do you folks need a lift”, the man asked.

     No, I don’t…
