"Jade! Wake up!" I heard Lachlan yelled at me from outside my door. I rolled off the bed and got dressed. I walked over Lachlan and grumpily sat down.
"Did you need something, because if not, I'm going back to bed." I complained.
"Actually, ya. I was going to get ice cream for us." He said matter-of-factually. I jumped up at the thought of ice cream. I ran to the car and jumped into shotgun. Lachlan came out and started the car. We drove to the Ice cream shop. Lachlan got the strawberry sherbet and I got the cookies'n'creem. We hopped in the car and started to drive, but not to the house.
"Where are we going?" I asked Lachlan.
"Somewhere special." Lachlan said with a grin, but I could tell it was fake.
"Lachlan?" I said more persistent. We pulled up into a place I've never heard of before. I hopped out of the car and walked inside. Lachlan came in behind me. I heard a random person call my name and a doctor walk out of the big door. He motioned for me to follow him. I ran to catch up to him. When I caught up to him, I asked "What is this place?" He smiled.
"Jade, this is where you get therapy. We are going to help you with your nightmares, and with the depression." He said happily.
"Help? I don't need help." I explained. "I'm fine." I told him while I sat down in the big white chair.
"Well, we still want to at least get rid of the nightmares. Is that OK?" I nodded my head yes. "Great!" He said cheerfully. "So, can you explain the nightmare in full depth?" He asked me. I explained the nightmares I had been having for the past few months. "And, how do the nightmares make you feel." He asked, quickly scribbling some stuff on his notepad.
"Like I don't deserve to live, I should be dead. I killed my whole family!" I started to cry.
"Here." The doctor said, handing me a lollipop. My eyes lit up, and I took the candy. "So, what you are feeling is survivor syndrome, more commonly known as survivor's guilt. You can help stop the nightmares if you find an activity and stick with it. When you are participating in the activity, don't think about your family. Think about your new family, or on the activity itself. I suggest something fun, like a sport." He explained.
"What about YouTubing?" I asked him. I was already doing that, but I never stopped thinking about my old family. Every Time I recorded a video, I thought of all the times I had fought with my dad about how I wanted to do YouTubing, but he said it was too dangerous. I remembered how he always told me that I would get targeted by the bad guys. I thanked the doctor and walked out to join Lachlan.
"So how'd it go?" He asked in his thick Australian accent.
"Great, thank you." I smiled.
