Shaydee’s P.O.V
Why do we have to be the ones hunting for food in the woods. Why can’t we just eat the bread crumbs we’re leaving behind, I mean if we’re so poor, why can we just be throwing good bread away? “No good game this week. At this rate we’ll starve.” TaiLey, Shaydee’s sister, said. “I know, I can feel my stomach starting to digest itself.” I said. “Come on sis,” TaiLey said, “Stop being dramatic.” “Fine. Let me don’t care that I’m dying.” I said very dramatically. TaiLey just chuckled at that. After what felt like forever, we ran out of bread, and I said, “No more bread to leave behind.” TaiLey stopped and said. “Then just look around and try to find something edible.”
I spotted a thick huge berry bush ahead, and ran over to it. I inspected the berries and classified them as edible. I started picking and when the berries were gone I started to circle around the bush to make sure I hadn’t missed any, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw a big gingerbread house, big enough for people to live inside of it. When an old lady came out, she saw us, and started towards us. I started to back away and tripped on an overgrown root. TaiLey saw me and ran over to me.
When the old lady got to me first, she helped me up, and offered me to go inside for a nice snack, she seemed nice so I said yes before TaiLey could stop me. We started walking over to the gingerbread house when TaiLey whispered in my ear, “What are you doing!?” She is a complete stranger! We could get killed!” I replied with, “She’s an old lady, what’s she gonna do?” TaiLey just shook her head at me and walked into the house.
“You look very skinny, we need to fatten you up, the whole house is edible, so dig in!” Me and TaiLey just stared at each other in disbelieve. We started to eat, and eat, until we were full. The old lady saw us and told us that we were still too skinny and that we could stay as many nights as we wanted until we became so fat our bellies would jiggle. So we stayed for days, until we became 200 pounds heavier and could barely lift ourselves up.
“Now you are perfect.” The old lady said. We both looked at each other and laughed with joy, we hadn’t been this full in our entire lives. The old lady disappeared for a minute and came back with a butcher knife. “What are you doing with that?” I asked. “Well what did you think that I was fattening you up for. Have you noticed that I never eat anything in this house? Well nothing in her is exactly my… taste.” “What is your taste then?” I asked nervously, knowing what came next. “You.” She said with a grin and started towards us. TaiLey looked at me scared and screamed, “Grab something to knock her out!” I reached behind me, and found a gigantic thick lollypop, when the old lady came into reached. She dropped down and held her head where I hit her. “Run TaiLey!”
We both ran outside, (Very slowly) and found our line of bread crumbs surprisingly still there. We followed it until we got to our parent’s house and told them the story. They both started scolding us, but stopped when we heard the front door creak open. Our parents rushed us into the nearest pantry barely fitting us in there because we were so fat, and the pantry didn’t even shut, it had to be cracked open.
We both stared out the crack and saw the old lady from the gingerbread house. “What are you doing here.” Our dad asked. “Well your kids had slept at my place for a few days, and forgotten a few things over there.” She replied. “Then what’s with the butcher knife.” Our mom asked. “Well… Fine I’m done talking. Then she chopped our mom up to pieces and same with our dad. She started eating the pieces, and when she got to the last part, the heart, she muttered, “They weren’t that good. They were skinny. Now for the best part though. The heart.” She ate the heart, and when TaiLey saw this she freaked out and lunged at the lady. The old lady hit her head on the counter and blacked out.
I started to cry very hard. While TaiLey had taken the butcher out of the ladys hand and stabbed her in the heart. She opened her eyes, in surprise, but slowly died. We didn’t even bother shutting her eyes. We abandoned the house, because it was too sad, and we wandered into the forest, occasionally running to burn off weight. After what had been 7 hours, we had quickly burnt off 150 pounds and looked decent. We crossed paths with a gothic girl on a horse with another girl that had mascara that had hardened on her cheeks, like she had been crying a few hours ago. We stopped and so did they. They asked us what we were doing and we told them the story. They both looked sadly at us and the gothic one said, “That happened to you just 7 hours ago?” The other one just looked at her with a look that said, ‘That’s so sad, we need to help them’. The gothic one thought for a while and said, “Travel with us. We need more help getting far away.
TaiLey looked at me with uncertainty and said, “Don’t go with them. They could just be cannibals too.” I nodded in agreement, and told them no. They looked at us with sad eyes, then left us. We started towards the next town, but stopped and chiseled on 2 rocks, R.I.P Beloved mom, and our best friend. On the second one it had said, R.I.P Beloved dad, and the one that taught us to survive. Then we left and promised each other we would survive. Together.
