Road Trip

Blah

I wasn't ever one for many words. Verbal ones anyway. I liked to think of myself as a thoughtful person who over-analyzed her every word to make sure I don't sound like an idiot.
"Are you gonna eat that?" His breath smelled like last weeks tuna casserole that was served by Gilda the lunch lady.
"Go ahead" I said as I scooted my leftover tray over to Jax. He was my best friend, Tori's, boyfriend of 8 months. I tolerated him on her behalf. One of those grungy guys who doesn't believe personal hygiene is important.
"So... Has he asked you yet?" Tori asked with a smile in her voice. I knew Shane liked me but he hadn't had the courage to make it official yet.
"No," I said with a bit of disappointment in my voice. "Did he say he would?"
"Gabi, he likes you, okay? He told me last week in 5th period that he loved the way your butt looked in those Miss Me's!" Tori knew how to make me blush. I'm sure at this point I was a bright red, visible to Saturn. I grabbed my algebra book and tossed my milk carton just as the bell rang. Senior year was almost over and I hadn't even left the country. Everyone was talking about their senior trips after graduation; Greece, Bahamas, Cancun, Paris. And I was going to Gator World with my younger siblings, parents and our dog, Lucy. I was stagnant. Bored and the pressures of junior college were pounding in my brain like a jack hammer. I wanted to be more, to see the world and experience life to its fullest. Something had to change. I gotta get out of this town.
After school let out I met Tori and Jada at my van. The plan was to go to Hayward Mall and shop for the last few items to our graduation outfits. I wasn't feeling it and my girls were aware of my mood.
"Gabi! Why do blue, girl?" Asked Jada.
"I'm just blah. Do you guys ever feel... Stuck?"
They looked at each other with confusion and Tori said, "Is this about Dhane? I told you he likes you."
"No, not at all. I don't know. I'm sure it's just my period or something. Never mind." And we drove off to shop.
