Danica absolutely dreaded everything about her school. Everything was the same grayish hue and even her uniform blurred between a sad excuse for blue and also gray. What made it more unbearable was the stares she received when she ate lunch and studied during her free period. Of course, Dani wasn't always alone, it had only been a week since her best friend Giana started attending Gotham academy. In her words, it sucked and nothing was gonna change that.
Danica tucked her mahogany dark hair behind her ear as she sketched a hand during Mrs. VanCook's lecture on the rise of the gun powder empire. She'd already been moved away from the window for day dreaming, so drawing was the next best thing. Everyone had heard the same thing before and no one wanted to hear it again. Out of the corner of her eye, she could spot the older woman creeping towards her desk. Just in the knick of time, the bell to end final period echoed out. Mrs. VanCook turned away bitterly and Dani rose to leave. Pushing and shoving her way through the halls of snickering, chattering girls, Danica remembered she didn't have rehearsal today. She sighed inward and opened her locker.
As she filled her backpack, three girls approached her. The leader of the pack, Sheila, held out a bright pink envelope. Danica stared at it. "What's this?" Dani rose as Sheila rolled her eyes. "It's a party invitation. Haven't you ever seen one before?" A hot feeling formed in her stomach, all she could bring herself to do was blink at the envelope in the girls manicured hand. "Don't get any ideas. My mom made me invite you. My parents said I should be nice to you." The feeling swelled and Dani hesitantly took the invite. Sheila immediately snapped back her reach. Then all three girls turned on their heels and strutted off.
Ballet practice would've gone till 5,which meant no ride for nearly 3 hours. Danica knew she could walk home quicker and started off down the streets of Gotham. Dani stared at the envelope being crushed under her fist. She couldn't decide if she was more upset with the stupid piece of paper or her dad who commenced it's sending. She walked aggressively until she reached a trash can on the side of a bench. She crumpled it up in her hands and tossed it in. Dani tried calming herself down while looking at her own feet to avoid the faces of strangers. This had happened before. Why was she so upset? She always hated the school, the teachers and the girls. But today seemed to break the camels back.
" I have to get away...I don't like it here and I never have. I need t-" "Hey! Watch out!" A strong force hit her in the chest and halted her next step. A flash of black and a nearly paralyzingly loud honk of a car horn blurred before her. Only mere feet away. A few moments passed until Dani looked at the still stone object across her. She lowered her chin to see a semi-muscular arm dressed in a navy blue jacket. Danica adjusted her sight to the owner of the limb, and who stood there was a familiar and ebony haired adolescent. His sapphire like irises pierced her own and Dani couldn't form any words...
"That was way too close. You really need to watch where you're going."
