Four:
I let the warm water course over me. usually I would welcome this shower, it had a way of relaxing me. But all it did for me now was give me time to think.
I was quiet the entire ride home after I picked up Jake. “You okay?” he asked awkwardly. He and I have always been close. He denied it now that he was 14, but I would always think of him as the five year old who would ask to sleep in my room when it was storming out.
“Yeah, just tired.” I yawned to prove my point. He nodded and began listening to his ipod.
As much as I wanted to occupy my though with anything else all I could think about now was Adam. Adam and Leslie. I closed my eyes and let the water hit my face before finally turning it off.
I couldn’t comprehend when that would have happened. They only met the one time I introduced them. Maybe he had a free period with her when I was in math I though. But how and why would she do that to me not only did she think I liked him, but she has been in love with Chase since I could remember. I hadn’t built up the nerve to talk to either of them after gym class. I got dressed as fast as I could and headed to my car before either of them caught up to me. luckily my last class of the day was a free period so I usually just hung out in the library or went home.
I threw on sweat pants and a camisole, and lay down in bed drowning out my thoughts with music from my ipod. I also ignored a few texts from Leslie.
‘Hey missed you after gym. Gotta tell you something! Text me ASAP.’
‘Just out of English class. Did you get my last text?! It’s about YOU KNOW WHO ;)’
‘Alivia are you ignoring my texts?’
No I definitely wasn’t ready to talk to her yet. I knew where this was going. She had to tell me about Adam and how they had some sort of connection and she was over Chase. Poor Chase, he really liked her.
I was past denying to myself that I felt something toward Adam, but what it was that I felt I wasn’t sure. I couldn’t explain the loss I felt knowing that he and my best friend were together.
“Liv?” my door pushed open and I pulled my headphones out. It was Jake.
“What’s wrong?” I started climbing out of my bed. I hadn’t been out of my room for hours for all I knew the entire down stairs may have caught fire.
“Nothing. Gabe’s downstairs.” He came into my room and plopped himself down on my beanbag chair. Gabe was like an older brother to Jake. He’s been hanging out with me since Jake was a baby and Jake looked up to him.
“Thanks Jake.” I said and ruffled his hair before I strode past him down the stairs to the living room. Gabe already made himself comfortable in the living room, legs propped on the coffee table drinking a can of Coke and watching SpongeBob Square pants.
I sat on the couch next to him folding my legs under me. I let myself fall on his shoulder.
“Why are you ignoring Les?” He asked not taking his eyes of the talking yellow sponge.
I closed my eyes. “What are you talking about?” how would he know I was ignoring her texts.
“Les called me and asked if you were dead or came down with a deadly disease…your obviously fine.” He said looking at me to confirm that he hadn’t spoken to soon. And like his normal self he gave me a wink.
“I have nothing to say to her…” I closed my eyes feeling a headache coming.
“What is this about? Because she has no idea.” He said turning to really look at me. I was forced to open my eyes. “Because she accused us of dating?”
