Imagine that you are in middle school right now trying to pay attention to the teacher. But instead, you are drawing a bunch of pictures of animals, flowers, people, and everything imagined on your classwork. That's what I'm doing right now at this moment. I was almost finished completing my beautiful flower until Ms. Gurney states loudly, "Karina, can you please answer my question?"
"Uh..." I say peeling my eyes off my drawing. I start tapping my pencil on my desk with anxiety, feeling the strong force of eyes staring at me, "What question?"
"What I expected." She said giving me an evil glare. Something about her just gives me the shivers. Ms. Gurney is a always-on-edge teacher. Every time you did something wrong or don't pay attention in class, she would make mean remarks directly at you or at rare occasions, yell at you.
I looked on the board, and the question states, 'Where is Panama?' I thought of the answer as soon as Ms. Gurney was about to turn away.
"Panama is in Central America!" I yell slamming my pencil on my desk loudly with confidence. I'm hating how she's taking time away my time from drawing right now.
"We all know that, Karina!" Ms. Gurney said looking back at me in the eyes. I hear snickers from across the room. "Now come up here on the board and point where Panama is," she says motioning towards the board.
I stood up and walk towards the board slowly, seeing a perfectly hand drawn Central America. I was so amazed by the drawing I froze in place examining the remarkable masterpiece.
Remembering back to Ms. Gurney's order, I proceed onward to the board. I remember back to when I was looking at a world map hanged on one of the walls in my room. I remember Central America between North and South America and looking at Panama's location.
"We're all waiting on you, Karina," Ms. Gurney announces interrupting my thoughts. I approach the board until it was arm's length away. As I looked at the Central America map, I pointed to the little isthmus on the bottom right corner of the drawn Central America without hesitation.
"Very well miss Melody." Ms. Gurney said nodding. After that, I quickly retreat back to my desk and sit down, just as my pencil rolls off the desk. I quickly retrieve my pencil from the floor. I shot the clock a quick glance. It's almost time to go! Then, the bell rang for the dismissal of going to last period. I quickly gathered my stuff and went off.
I exit the classroom with speed and start down the hallway. On the way down, I bump into someone while I was speed walking down the hallway and immediately said with instinct, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I drop everything as I say that statement.
"No worries young girl, I'm perfectly fine! Are you okay?" A boy's voice replies. As I look up, I see the new boy everyone was talking about today. I've heard that he just transfered to our school, The Transforming Academy.
Our school is known for people who can transform into animals, both strong and weak. Most people are born with the ability to transform while others learn or try to transform into animals, soon finding no luck. Surprisingly, this school is famous! "I'm fine," I said to him not making eye contact with him even though he was looking at me. I glance at my scattered papers laid out on the floor with my binder wide open.
This is part of my animal personality, if you don't already know. You know, not making eye contact as much. The new boy looked at my all my textbooks and homework scattered all over the hallway as well. "Here, let me help you with your stuff, " He said bending down the gather the papers. I bend down as well picking up my papers with him as the hallway starts to empty out.
As the boy and I were picking up my stuff, the late bell rung signaling that last period was now commencing. "Aw man!" I said, "We're late!"
But surprisingly, the boy was gone in the blink of an eye! So I quickly gathered the rest of my stuff and wandered to the Secretary Desk not far away. Ms. Meryl, the Secretary at the desk asked, "Here for a late slip?" I nodded. Seriously? This was my fifth late slip this year, and I hate it! "Sign this paper and be off to your, last period, I believe?" She says handing me a tiny pink slip.
