AURORA'S POV
Our classroom was chilly, with crisp cold breezes slipping through the cracks of old window panes in retaliation to the warmth of the Hogwarts castle. As the minutes of the lesson passed, the interminable buzzing of the students merely increased once Professor Flitwick announced the task of today's lesson.
Professor Flitwick was an undoubtedly short man in front of the other teachers in the school. I had been told that many students were speculating that the man was part elf yet were never rude enough to ask him, which was understandable. His glasses hung off of the bridge of his nose as a moustache sprouted from below it.
With his prior knowledge of the lesson Professor Flitwick had given each student a prim white feather in order to be used for the following task. We had heard him explain the basics of the colour changing charm, a charm that he had a strong feeling would make an appearance in our OWLs, in previous lessons until he had decided we were ready to attempt the charm ourselves.
To my dismay when he proceeded to put us into pairs Loisa nor I couldn't imagine that by sitting next to each other in the class it would mean that we would be partnered with someone else. The Potter girl had been issued to work with her brother whereas myself was joined with Dorcas Meadows.
"Now class, remember the incantation when proceeding to colour the feather! Pronunciation is everything," the Professor spoke, perched upon his tower of books. With that the entire class had engaged in the trials of colouring their feather a different colour.
Dorcas had pulled back the robes hanging around her wrists all the way back to her elbows, her face with an expression of determination. "It doesn't seem extremely hard if I'm being honest. All we have to do is point at the feather instead of some fancy hand gesture. I bet I'll get it in no time," she grinned, wand at the ready.
I sent her a small smile while nodding in slight agreement. My eyes wandered around the class that surprisingly had to attempt the charm more than once before a select few feathers had been painted differently. Watching Dorcas take a deep breath she proceeded to stating the incantation in a bold, almost shouting, voice.
The feather remained in its customary embodiment while Dorcas' changed into a pink flush. I could have laughed but instead I sent her a tight lipped smile, "don't worry, I'm sure the feather may just be positioned wrong."
"You must be right!" she boasted, the same grin returning to her face.
If there was one thing I learned about Dorcas was that she always felt the need to be right. And it wasn't that I disliked the girl it was just that her personality was just a tad to headstrong when it came to her own ideas and opinions.
