Prologue

Grabbing the red spray paint from her rucksack, Lila crouched down in the dark in front of Locker 75. As she painted the last letter, Kyle knelt besides her, holding the torch, shining it at the finished master piece, bursting into laughter. A sudden noise from the bottom of the corridor made them snap out of it. As the hallway lights turned on one by one, two figures walked towards the delinquents. Not just any two people, instead it was two uniforms. Lila dropped the can of paint, and ran down the corridor as if her life depended on it. With Kyle hot on her heels, she thought they were safe, but she was so wrong, they ran looking over their shoulders at the officers chasing after them, only to run into more officers round the corner.

Waiting at the police station for her parents, she starts to think of what started all this? How did things get so bad? Lila was brought out of her thoughts at the sound of slamming doors. 'Great' she instantly thought to herself, knowing exactly what to expect once her parents see her. Lila's parents didn't say a word to her as they entered the police station, they ignored her and walked straight to the front desk to collect her belongings and to sign her release forms. Without looking at either of them, Lila rose stiffly and followed her parents outside to the car once they were finished. 'Mum?' she looked at her mum waiting for her to say something, when her mum didn't respond Lila turned to the only other person. 'Dad?' Her dad's jaw tensed, showing just how angry he actually was .

'Lila. Stop.'

'Stop what?'

'Just stop talking.. Please'

Giving up, Lila reluctantly got into the car. The whole way home was driven in silence, no one daring to say a word, which is only making Lila feel worse. Once they arrived at the house, her parents got out of the car without saying a word, as Lila chased after them, the pit in her stomach only gets worse. Lila walked straight up the stairs and down the hall to the safety of her own bedroom, only to fall asleep as soon as her head hit her pillow.
