All main characters in this story belong to Rick Riordan, unless mentioned otherwise. A few minor characters to get the story flowing will be created by me."Percy. Percy?"
My eyes opened to see my mom standing over me, tears running down her smiling face. Why was she crying? Had a had another scrape with death that she found out about? Even worse, what if she found out that I trekked through Tartarus? No. Trekked makes it sound like a leisure hike I went on, prancing through the hot, sweltering pit with Annabeth like it was a vacation. But I didn't think she found out. If she had, she wouldn't be smiling.
My eyes adjusted to a white, small hospital room. Behind Mom were a few doctors, masks hiding their expressions. But judging by the enormous needles in their hands, I assumed they were celebrating National Poke Percy Day. I never liked sharp needles.
"Percy..."
She touched my face. It was then I realized I was covered with tubes, various liquids running through them. It was then I realized I was the patient. But I didn't normally go to a mortal hospital.
"Eeeeeeemmmm" A screeching sound escaped my mouth as I attempted to speak.
"Don't try to talk" A dark haired doctor told me.
"You haven't used your voice in 5 years. It may take some time to talk again."5 years?
"Annabeth" I croaked, hoping my mother would understand. Her expression remained unchanged, but now confusion was added to her happiness.
"Who's Annabeth?" My mom asked me. Was this a joke? She's my girlfriend, that's who. But when I tried to speak, hoping to emit some sort of sarcastic comment. How could she forget Annabeth?
"This may be hard for him to take. We can talk to him when he recovers his voice again"
I was really starting to hate that doctor. That hate only intensified when he walked over to my bedside, and rolled up the sleeve of my hospital gown. He held the needle over my arm, then he plunged it down into my skin. I winced as the needle hit my skin. I watched the needle fill with dark liquid. He was drawing blood.
As he retracted the needle, I looked at my mother. She looked at me, then at the doctor, then at me again. Her face was anxious and worried. I upset her once more. Last time, it was when I disappeared for a few months and almost died every hour or so. This had to be something the gods did again. I wasn't going to let them ruin my life anymore.
"What.. happened to me?" I whispered. I found out I could whisper without hurting my voice. My mom was about to say something, but then she decided against it. I stared expectantly at the doctor. I needed to find out what happened, then I needed to get out of this hospital bed. I needed to get to Camp Half Blood. I needed to talk to Chiron and find out what danger is being thrown at us this time. I was likely the victim of Another prophecy. I really need a vacation.
"Victims of a... coma, often create worlds of their own to replace what they've lost. Everything you've experienced in the last five years was likely apart of your coma world. I'm really sorry to say this... but everything that has happened to you was inside your own head. It was likely fake."
I breathed deeply. This was some kind of sick joke.
"Mom.. tell me this isn't true. You know about the gods, right? My dad is Poseidon. Camp Half Blood is real. Grover, Thalia, Piper, Jason. Nico, Hazel, Frank, Leo. Annabeth. Mom. Tell me Annabeth is real. Mom, tell me."
"I'm sorry Percy, but I don't know who those people are. The doctor is right. None of it was real."
None of it was real.
None of it was real.
Annabeth.
Annabeth.
Annabeth.
ANNABETH!
