The date was October 27th, 2001. My parents had been called out to an old manor house out in the countryside, and I was tagging along. My parents were armed to the teeth with ghost hunting equipment, including crossbows with silver tipped bolts, silver rapiers, holy water, and charcoal from enchanted oak trees for drawing defensive symbols. They were especially prepared this job, because it, and many others had been different this year.

Ghosts were common on and for a while after Halloween, but never three days before. Most troublesome ghosts were already dealt with by this time, if not three months before. Also, there were many strange things about these hauntings. For one thing, all of these ghosts were incredibly aggressive. Thirteen people had died already, half of them ghost hunters, either from contact with deathly cold ectoplasm, scared to death, bludgeoned to death by poltergeists, or stabbed by highly manifested ghosts.

All of these alone would be a reason to not be careless, but together, they were a recipe for disaster. We just didn't know it yet.

I followed my parents to the door of the aged manor. This ghost was supposed to be the ghost of number 50 Berkeley square, but had inexplicably shown up at this ancient estate. You might think that maybe we had gotten that ghost mixed up with this new one, but from what the survivors say, its appearance checks out. It is a pulsating, panting blob of ectoplasm with many too many red eyes. If that image disgusts you, scares you, or just plain puts you off your breakfast, DON'T CONTINUE. If you are fine with that, carry on.

It was noon when the client met us at the door. We had to get there before nightfall so we could prepare. The only problem was that the client, an attractive blonde chatterbox, kept talking, and talking, and talking. She kept interrupting our preparations, and the hours of daylight were slipping away.
