Ah yes, we're back at this I see.

Yeah I didn't even want to write a sequel in the first place but people were asking me to write one so here you go. I didn't plan this one as long as Heartless Proxy so don't blame me if it ends up like shit. If you don't like what I do have planned, well tough shit. Beggars can't be choosers.

Anyway, in the last story I had to sacrifice some of Heartless's true characteristics for the sake of the 'romance' with Hoodie so in this one i'll stick closer to my portrayal of her.

As for the scheduling of this, idk yet. I'm a senior in high school and I just can't devote as much time to this as I would've liked so maybe I'll get a chapter up every...two weeks? I don't know yet.

Actually, I'll just wait and see how this chapter's being received first to see if I want to turn this into a full-fledged story. If it's bad and nobody wants to read it, this will be deleted.

Oh well, here goes nothing.

Sorry if I sound like a textbook for this though. I gotta start it this way :P

Chapter 1: Forgotten

Have you ever wondered if you finished something...completely?

Like, you think you've dealt with everything properly...

But then get this nagging feeling that you...

Forgot something?

Well let's remember then.

Let's remember the things that might have been forgotten.

Nobody knew when the Corruption actually started. Some said that it might have stemmed from the monsters of ancient lore, and some have speculated that it was a more recent type of infection which has been sweeping a certain kind of population. Either way, the Corruption was a feared disease that spread through every corner of the CP community. Although such an epidemic has ripped apart that particular population, there have been a handful of survivors. Still, not much information could be gathered from the strange phenomena known just simply as the 'Corruption'. Only a specific group has ever had misfortune of being targeted by the dreadful disease and fewer still even dared to study it up close for fear of getting infected as well, or possibly losing their life to it.

But what was known about it anyway?

It starts with whoever can get infected by it initially.

Although it was such a deadly virus, only a small fraction of the world's population could even be infected. That small population was the CP community. They were unique in that there was a certain kind of...supernatural aspect to their being. They were not considered normal, not in the slightest. Most humans have even written them off as just urban myth found on the internet, but they existed. Their numbers were few, and with the Corruption spreading, they have become even fewer.

They were all carefully maintained by a macabre group of brothers of unknown origin. They were known as the Slender Brothers. They were monsters, creatures spawned from absolute darkness. Their followers? A pack also shrouded in a layer of death and decay. They were notorious, yet unseen. A powerful cluster of individuals.

And of course, it was fitting for this powerful community to be the only group in the entire world to have the misfortune of being afflicted by the Corruption.

However, there was no definite idea on how the disease itself was stemmed from. No one really knew how a CP received an infection, it just happened. There have been a few speculations on what caused a CP to be more susceptible to it, and most of those theories are derived from how exactly a CP is created.

A CP starts out as a normal human being. They deviate into becoming a CP after manifesting intense amounts of negative energy which eventually consumes them. That is the key note, they must be absolutely consumed. Once they are consumed enough to convert, a Slender brother appears to claim the unfortunate soul under their own jurisdiction. Some come willingly and accept their new transformation with bloodlust. And then there were some who did not wish to indulge in the dark fantasies which were changing their being.

These few were the ones often more susceptible to the Corruption.

At least, that was the suspicion after finding out what worsened the disease.

According to the few observations made on cases where a CP was infected it has been noted that those individuals expressed extreme forms of depression, anxiety, and stress due to an assortment of reasons. It has then been decided that negativity increases the effects of the Corruption.

As for the symptoms, there have been a few documented however not all the symptoms could be identified presently.

The most notable symptom would be black, tendril-like markings originating from the chest and spreading throughout the entire body. They are reported to be painful when they spread, however the amount of tendrils visible on the body does not equate to how consumed a CP was to the Corruption. How consumed they were tended to reflect on how sever the other symptoms were.

Changes in character and personality have also been reported when a CP has been afflicted with the Corruption. This symptom have been reported to appear right after the first signs of tendrils. The changes could be small or quite significant, each change varies with each victim.

Voices have also been reported by the victims, specifically a male demonic voice speaking in their minds which encouraged them to hurt others, a symptom that will be detailed at a later point. This voice has also been noted to appear within the victim's own voice once they are consumed.

The most dangerous symptom of Corruption which happens later in its development is hostility towards other CPs. This could start from initial dislike and change into eventually committing a massacre. This is the only indication to the loss of control within the CP's mind thus leading to the consumption of their entire being. Total consumption is the absolute loss of the soul therefore requires the immediate extermination or else annihilation of more CPs will ensue.

There is absolutely no way to revert them back to their original selves once they are fully consumed. However, before complete consumption there is only one reported method to completely heal someone of the Corruption. That is by performing a Holy Cleansing which requires another CP close to the victim in order for the ritual to work. The chosen CP forms a mental pathway into the heart of the infected in order to terminate the Corruption at its source, however the actual process remains undocumented as each victim is different and there have only been a handful of survivors.

A Holy Cleansing is incredibly dangerous to other CPs because, if not contained carefully, their existence could be erased as well. A CP is created through intense negative energy, without that they cease to exist for they have no reason to exist.

Although it's dangerous for the corrupted to be healed, it is possible.

As long as you have the heart for it.
