Waking up Tuesday was horrible. I had to wear about a pound of makeup so that I looked at least somewhat presentable to the public. My eyes were swollen from crying and my cheeks were puffy. I had hardly slept at all.
I had walked down stairs, my mom glancing at my outfit and simply saying, “I like the shirt. Hate the pants.”
I somehow managed to keep my mouth shut. I wanted to play sick so badly. I wanted to forget I even had school. I didn’t want to face Harry, but lucky for me, he wasn’t there.
After eating lunch with Lea, I walked into the school bathroom. I needed to be alone for a moment. The constant chatter from the halls was too much to handle sometimes.
I looked in the mirror. My eyes were rimmed with pink, almost as if I was stoned. But it was quite the opposite. I didn’t feel light, happy, and have no worries. I felt heavy, regretful, and depressed.
“I hear if you stare at your reflection long enough, the devil jumps out at you.” A voice said from behind me. I turned around to see Britney standing there.
I laughed, no humor in my voice as I looked her up and down. She had on a tiny skirt that left no imagination, along with a belly shirt that barely covered her chest.
“I was just zoned out.” I replied.
“Mm.” She mumbled as she came and stood next to me. “It’s weird to see you here without Harry stuck to your side. Everything okay? Or are you guys over already?”
The mention of Harry immediately pissed me off. I turned around and looked at her.
“It’s none of your business,” I smiled at her fake tanned face. “But thanks for taking such in interest in my relationship.”
Britney laughed and rolled her eyes.
“I’m just saying, Harry isn’t the type to stay around long. He’ll make you think he likes you, then he’ll leave you in the dust.” She replied. I could hear the venom in her voice.
“Is that what he did to you?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.
“Everything between me and Harry was purely physical.” She snickered.
“Really? You don’t seem like the type to do friends with benefits…” I said sarcastically. She glared at me as she stepped forwards to me.
“Keep a tight reign on your boyfriend, princess.” She said, smirking. “You wouldn’t want someone to…steal him.”
“I’m confident that he won’t cheat on me. Plus, he told me he’s done fucking whores.” I said, walking past Britney who’s mouth had dropped open.
I walked to my last class of the day, which was chemistry. It was weird without Harry sitting next to me. He was always constantly at my side during class. If his hand wasn’t around my waist, it was holding my hand, or playing with a piece of my hair, or tracing a finger up my arm.
I missed his constant touch on me. I missed him.
“Where’s your partner, Miss Thorne?” Our chemistry teacher asked as she passed by my lab table. I gave her a small smile.
“Sick.”
“Okay, well since Mr. Styles is sick, you can work with another group today. How about Alec? His partner seems to be sick also!” She said as she walked by.
I groaned inwardly as I glanced behind me to where Alec sat. His eyes met mine immediately, as if he had already been looking at me.
Today just keeps getting better.
