Ariadne's POV
I rested my head on the plush carpeting as the sharp chemicals rushed into my veins, running a steady pace to match the curved direction of my bloodstream, spreading through my body. Once the stream settled with the endorphins in my mind, I was out in an instant, my heart and body slowly cutting of to a stop, leaving a lifeless body.
**
And just like that I was up again, my body seeping with life, my senses coming back with a heavy pang, sending my nerves jolting from my head to the tips of my long fingers, my eyelids flying open, something weighing them down the slightest bit.
Looking around, I took in my new surroundings, letting my eyes fall on a bustling city street, projections walking the overly crowded streets, intently staring at me in warning, limiting the time I had to even achieve the information.
I hurried into the designated building, trying my hardest to remember the lay out of the office, the architecture, everything, even down to the weak spots in the refurbished wood walls as I ran up the stairs, passing over a mirror.
Glancing at myself, I swore to get Harley back. Did he really dress me up like this? My eyes were caked with dark make-up, my lips a bright red, a short black dress hanging dow to caress my thighs. I agree to let him plan and he dresses me like a streetwalker? Quick mental note: never let Harley direct the details.
I groaned, but deliberately continued up the staircase and to the top floor, banging down the first door to my right. Now to steal the thought.
I dug my way through a sea of miscellaneous items to a big vault, slowly opening it and extracting the single yellow folder within its cold metal walls, running out as fast as I could, coming into contact with the many projections that had gotten a hint of my existence, now chasing me down the inhabited streets.
Then I was hit.
A cool, thin piece of heavy steel ripped into my flesh, sliding clean through as it sent my falling backwards, my head hitting the hard pavement beneath it. My eyes silently closed and I heard the wandering footsteps of the 'citizens' as they walked along as if nothing had happened. Thank god, I'm saved now.
Oh how I wish that were true.
My ability to hear and smell dulled and my heart rate slowed. I drew in a long breath before the darkness consumed me.
I'm dead.
***
I shot up from the ancient carpet, my head pounding as blood recirculated, sending my senses into action, my fingers and toes tingling as they regained feeling. The fog cleared from my eyes and I pulled myself up from the floor, wobbling on my frail legs, grabbing a hold of anything I could as I limped to the room. Peering inside, I saw nothing but Harley asleep, computer running in his lap.
He fell asleep, again? No wonder why I had to wait until they killed me to wake up again. Reminding myself of my third death this month, I shivered, goosebumps rising on my warm skin.
"Harley I swear! Next time you ask me to do something for you, just shut up! I died, again." I said, waking him up and placing the information in my compartment near his bed.
"Sorry Ara. I'll make sure to stay up next time. But really, thanks, now can I know what you wanted to get in there?" he asked, staring at the small slit where the golden envelope was hidden.
"My mom.." I said truthfully.
"What dos this have to do with your mom?" he asked curiously, I never told him what I was receiving and who's mind I was in.
"Oh, uh, n-nothing, just nothing. I'm going to call up Arthur and Tom, we need to get moving if were gonna get another job request. We also need a new architect, you aren't the best." I said with small glare, doing my best to avoid the topic.
"Yeah yeah, I know, just give me a couple days, I have to find you a link." he said, typing away on his out-dated computer.
We really need to get him updated, I thought to myself, waling out of his dorm room and into the college courtyard, hoping Arthur was still in his room.
