Chapter 2

Ding Dong Ding Dong...

The school chime rang signalling the end of the first semester and the start of summer holidays. Summer was everything to us. Trips, movies, festivals. EVERYTHING! But a pity for the ones who didn't pass the midterm tests, because they would be spending a quarter of their summer holidays at school. Even though it's just a quarter, but every second we spend in summer was very important to us.

So, Chi-chan, Mizu-chan and I were off to plan our summer paradise. We said our goodbyes to our classmates and laughed around as we walked out the classroom. As we skipped excitedly in the hallway, Mizu-chan suddenly cried out, "Uwaaa~! A summer confession!", and put the rest of us to a halt as well. We saw a girl standing at the staircase, with a pose that seemed to be like she was going to confess to a boy. We never actually liked to care about the school's gossips, but a chance to witness a summer love confession was never to be missed! So we inched closer for a better view.

We stood the closest we could with hope that we wouldn't be noticed. I saw that the girl was well-known upperclassman named Hoshino Ami. She's very popular in the school but has never dated anyone. So for us, it was like a really huge phenomenon. Besides that, we really wanted to see who she had lost to.

When we peaked to see who he was......

"Eeeeeeh?!", my heart yelled in complete shock. The guy who's receiving the confession.... was my own brother???!!!

Okay, my brother's undeniably popular, but as far as I know, no one never had the courage to confess to him. Well, he's too nice to be dating anyone, I heard others say. So, I tried to calm myself by thinking he was going to politely, softly reject her. Or so I thought.

We sharpened our ears to hear what second year Hoshino senpai was about to say.
"Iroha-kun, I'm sorry to call you out at a time like this. But I really wanted to tell you something,"

"It's okay. But I was about to meet you as well. I also have something to tell you," Kazuki finally spoke.

"But I was faster!", Hoshino-senpai grinned. Then Kazuki agreed, "Yeah! You were!"

They started to laugh. And slowly they went silent for a few minutes. Then suddenly...

"I like you!", they cried out in sync.

"Wait, you do?", both of them asked each other, in sync, again.

With his right hand slowly stretching out towards Hoshino-senpai, he asked, with utter shyness, embarrassment, and happiness all jumbled up inside him, "So, will you go out with me?"

With the exact same emotions as he does, she gently took his hand, as a sign of a 'yes'. And they both smiled.

I was so focused on the scene, I almost jumped when Chi-chan patted on my shoulder.

"Kahoko, it's time to go," Chi-chan whispered.

"But...," I squeaked.

"Let's go, Kahoko," Mizu-chan grabbed my shoulder, and the two of them dragged me away.
