Running Far

I rode as far away as I could from that place always looking behind me to check and see if I was being followed which was the stupidest idea on earth since no one was there when I left, paranoid much...I was trying to think of possible reasons why no one was home and then it hit me, it must be Sunday. I wasn't quite sure of how long I had been here but long enough for it to have been at least a week and since all or at least most Scots and Brits are religious why wouldn't they be at church...I felt really stupid now and was about to turn back when up ahead of me I saw a long caravan. It was colorful and I could hear music all the way over here.

The word that instantly shot through my head was circus! I remembered that I loved the circus as a child and had always tried to calculate the success rate of the magician and the trapeze artist, I was generally always right...wait...I remember that! Guess what that means, Audrey! Your memories coming back! I tried to strain my brain to remember more but it just hit against that roadblock again! Maybe if I just didn't think about it it would come back to me in degrees.

David/Henrys POV

I had just gotten back home with my temporary family and walked up to Audrey's room expecting to see her probably still asleep, but instead walked into a room with the bed all made and in perfect order otherwise except it was empty with no Audrey inside it. She was gone and there was in fact no proof of her existence there at all,the hairbrush was cleaned of all hair and the washcloth had been replaced the water too. So like her too, she had always been a meticulous person and liked everything just so. Where use could have gone and why would she have left! She should have just looked at a calendar or something to know it was Sunday and we would all go to church! Alan came upstairs and stopped just behind me with Rona following close behind and they just stopped.

"Good Laird! Where has the lassie gone with no note of farewell? Why has she gone? She was supposed to leave tomorrow with you Davie! Why has she gone so soon?" Rona exclaimed, greatly disturbed by her disappearance.

"I was wonderin' why the great stallion was no longer in 'is stall...I suppose I 'ave no more need to worry where 'es off to. Davie, you had better follow 'er. I dinnae expect me words to 'urt 'er enough so that shed'd leave."

Damn you Alan! I cannot believe you could possibly expect her not to be hurt! Why did I have to land here as your stuttering son?! Now the only person in the world I would die for is gone and it is all your damn fault!!!

"I-I am g-g-going a-after h-h-her, n-now. I-I-m g-going t-t-to n-n-need a-a h-horse a-and s-s-some m-m-money f-for t-the t-t-trip. G-good-bye!" I just had to get out and find her. She can't leave me not here, not stuck here with no chance of getting out! Please, Audrey, wherever you are find your memory and figure out those calculations! See you soon.

Audrey's POV

I might as well ask the circus folk for directions to Edinburgh because I truly could not make head nor tail of the map I took from the house. I trotted forward and then the thought stuck me, I was in England and I was Scottish...and it was the year 1042, I don't think the Brits would take too kindly to my presence in their troops. So I decided to wait till they were far in front and I would have an opportunity to pass them without them noticing...also it had occurred in several movies that the unsuspecting victim was kidnapped by the gypsies and that would make a bad impression if and when I get back to my world. I heard hoofbeats behind me and turning around saw a figure on, duh, another horse otherwise I wouldn't have heard hoofbeats...I turned off the road into the brush and tried to hide myself as best I could having no idea who was behind me but I could guess pretty easily because who else knew that I was even in the country. I stayed hidden however just taking precautions and as he rode up called out to him

"David! Over here!"

He literally jumped off his horse which shied off the other side of the road down the hill. He rolled like a tumbler down the hill and his horse much more adept than him got to it's feet a lot quicker. I couldn't help but laugh! It was such a funny sight. He pulled himself together swiftly and scrambled up the hill to where I was hidden hauling himself into the brush and giving me the death stare which shut me up fast.

"Where...have...you...been? Why...did...you...leave??"

He was so mad that he could barely control his temper. I was starting to feel kind of afraid of him, he looked like a man who had just been to hell and back and I couldn't help but be ashamed at causing him that much worry, at least I hoped I was the one who had caused him so much worry and that it wasn't the horse that he came for.

"I didn't know where every one was and well, I thought you guys were off selling me out somewhere and since I would have to leave soon anyway why not then..." my voice shrank with every other word I spoke...his eyes just silently said the words I knew he would never voice and I wondered if it was Henry or David that was staring at me so pleadingly...it made me really uncomfortable and I had to look away, somewhere else where I wouldn't have to feel his pain along with mine. Did he even know what he was doing?

I had always hated situations like theses which is why I never went to the movies as a child or an adult...if that was my memory coming back I didn't really give a damn anymore, all I wanted was to get out of here and go home to where I would at least be safe.

"Look, I am really sorry David. How was I supposed to know where you guys were? I have been unconscious for who knows how long...and then I am told I have to leave in three days so that I won't hurt other people's feelings and yet did anyone ever consider my feelings in the matter? No of course you didn't and so when I woke up this morning I was freaking out because the was no one in the house! No one at all! I was completely alone and had no clue of what day it was because I do not think calendars were invented in freaking 1042! So just get off my case about will you!"

I had started to raise my voice towards the end but David just sat there in perfect silence taking it all upon himself as usual and making me feel bad into the bargain too. I hated it when he did that but this time he had nowhere to go to cool down. He just continued to sit there breathing heavily in and out to calm himself down. It wasn't working all that well because he just got more red with every breath, I couldn't help myself, i just had to start laughing, he looked just like a beetroot.

"Don't laugh at me!! It is not funny at all!" he was furious which made it even funnier and then of course he had to start laughing since he had trouble keeping up the angry face and laughing together we fell into each others arms and kissed. Not like that sappy kiss that you have on your first date or whatever no this was a real kiss and it defiantly meant something, it meant the end of our friendship, but I really doubt either of us cared anymore at that point. The only downer on this perfect kiss was the voice above our heads saying

"Well, well, looks like we've got ourselves a pair of lovebirds. They might catch a fancy price at the auctions."

Despite my great efforts to stay out of sight till in a civilization we had indeed been caught by gypsies and not the nice kind either.
