Chapter 4

Laura woke to a hand on her breast. Her eyes flew open trying to twist her body away from him. He just laughed at her. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes I did. I dreamed of you.... In a coffin and I was nailing it down and you were yelling." I laughed at him again. The man with the voice came out and saved me from another slap. He told the man to go clean up the camp. "I remember who you are Mr. Jones." Jimmy Jones looked at me puzzling. "It took me awhile but I finally put it together, the voice with the face. I only saw you one time, up close any ways. You remember at a restaurant with Russell back home. You called us over to your table." I said looking up at him. I knew he was not happy with me knowing who he was.

"You have a good memory honey. Let's hope we all walk away from this." He said coming around in front of me.

"And just what am I not walking away from?" I asked trying to get comfortable. "I don't understand why you're here. Don't you have flunkies to do your dirty work?"

"Not this time. I wanted to take you home with me, so I came myself." He said leaning down to untie my hands.

"Why?" I asked rubbing my wrist.

"You were strong enough to put up with Russell's .....Shall we say exploits?"

"I didn't put up with them I made him quit them. He found out love of a real family was more important than your family."

"Well maybe that's what I need, plus your ranch."

I stopped rubbing my wrist "Why?"

"And your son" he said nonchalantly.

I perked up on that. "Why do you want him? He doesn't know you or anything about you."

"Oh, yes he does. He's a member of my enemy's family. But he is trying to get out. He's a lot like Russell. He is choosing love of family over loyalty of the family, which could kill." He said untying my legs. "You know about that right."

I looked at him in shock over Ralph. The thought of the family getting rid of his wife, not something that I will let happen. "I guess he is a lot like his dad. Is his wife in the dark too?" I knew the answer already without him saying anything. The way she acted, staying to herself not participating in the family gatherings. And the way she thought about things in life. "No she's not" I sighed. "I need some private time please." I said walking to the woods not waiting for any ok. "Then you will tell me why you want my ranch." I walked behind a bush, and took care of some much needed business.

I came back to the camp and stood by the fire pit with no fire. I stretched my arms out trying to get the kinks out. We sat by a small fire just inside the mine for breakfast. I waited for him to answer my question about my ranch.

Now I sit back at my tree with my hands tied. I was bored to death. So I started singing. Lord knows I had nothing else to do. I wasn't really worried. I knew my boys would find me. I don't know why Tony would come rescue me. I just have a feeling.

"I hate horses. Where's the four wheelers." Ralph snapped.

"The motors make too much noise." Ronnie said. "They will hear us coming a mile away." Ronnie and Ralph don't get along to well. Ronnie doesn't like Ralph's big head. Ralph doesn't like the way he gets along with Anne and his mom.

"I know that Ronnie I was just....."

"You guys ready to go?" Steve asked walking into the barn with Tony close on his heels.
