The snowstorm was getting worse as we flew further away from base. I was worried about this mission from the start, but I quickly put my fear aside when I heard a voice come through my earpiece.
"We're here," Steve said looking towards the stone fortress.
The look of the cold stone sent chills up my spine. Our goal was to break into the castle and retrieve something that I had lost, my memories. I had them taken away from me when I came into contact with Loki. I remember this name for some reason but, I can't seem to remember why? Steve squeezed my hand and assured me that everything would be okay.
I remember waking up in a cell with the Avengers standing all around me. They were arguing as to which one had to wake me. When I stood up and backed against the wall, Steve broke away from the group and told me what had happened. I tried to tell him my name, but even with all my strength I could not remember. It was like I had lost myself, who I was or used to be.
Loki had found me here even though I was supposed to be safe. My powers were not safe yet and I was just figuring out how to use them. So much emotion went into controlling my powers, I could not think of anything else or I would lose it. He had snuck into my practice room one morning and I had been trying to focus my power towards the wall.
"You know, you should really try breathing before you use your powers. That way you can calm yourself down." A deep, smooth voice spoke to me from behind.
"Maybe you should try some manners and introduce yourself." I spat back at him.
"Sorry, I don't associate with mortals very often. Loki is my name and I am from Asgard."
"Pleasure to meet you Loki." I stuck my hand out only to have him smack it away.
"I do not touch the hands of mortals!" He shouted.
My fear began to rise and I felt a surge of power come through my hands before I could react. A spear of blue mist bolted from my hands and pinned Loki against the wall. I instantly fell to the floor with exhaustion. Loki broke the spear from the wall and kneeled down beside me. He put his hand on my back and I felt a sense of renewed energy. I worked with Loki for a few weeks and eventually I was able to control the power coming from my hands.
Loki and I became really good friends, despite his usual grumpiness. He taught me everything he knew about magic and what he thought was the source of my powers. I taught him about Earth and how we lived here. He kept asking about some group, the Avengers, which I had never heard of. He said they were after him and he needed shelter. I told him he could stay here. He gladly accepted and we began a routine of training and fighting, which I became very good at. Loki said I was a natural magician and fighter, though I never mean to hurt anyone.
One day things were different and Loki seemed anxious and angry. He was pacing the training room and I began to get worried. I crept up behind him as he looked out the window and took his hand in mine.
"Not very many people can sneak up on me without my knowledge. You've been practicing well. It's time to put your training to the test."
"What do you mean? What is going on? Who is..," I was trying to ask when Loki turned around and I saw his watery eyes.
"They have found us. They are coming for me. I have to get you some place safe," He began to ramble on.
He ran his hand through his hair like he always did when he was nervous. I had seen him do this a thousand times when we would train. I think he was afraid to hurt me since I was a girl. It took a while but, he began to grow on me. The way his eyes glaze over when he concentrates on his magic. The way he fiddles with random objects like a cup or pen when he is bored. I've recently noticed the way he stares at me sometimes when we are training. I really like having him around.
