Prologue

I feel my heart shatter into millions of microscopic pieces as I stare at the four bloody corpses lying on my white kitchen floor. My hands start to tremble and shake at my sides.

I slowly bring them up to my face, just as a muffled sob escapes my lips.

Tears begin to form in my eyes, blinding me from the sight of the bodies.

I hear the old, wooden floor boards creek above me, and the noise brings me back to my senses.

I hurriedly grab my journal off of the counter and bolt to the large front door of my house.

The door was unlocked and it squeaked open.

I hear sudden movement from upstairs and quickly spin around to see him standing there with the knife that killed them in his hand.

He must have been looking for me, because my bedroom door that I had left closed was now ajar.

An animal-like sound came out of my mouth, as I turned and ran out of the now open door, and into the forest surrounding my home.

My pace quickens when I hear his feet crunching the leaves behind me. The sounds were getting louder, meaning he was getting closer.

My lungs are on fire by the time I reach the crystal clear river. He's still chasing me as I splash through the cool waters.

It gives me brief pleasure before I remember what's happening again.

I charge through the fields of flowers, faster and faster, feeling the adrenaline flowing through my veins, like water from a faucet.

My momentum is stopped abruptly when a pair of large, tattooed, muscular arms are thrown across my waist.

I'm swung around and thrown roughly to the ground then pinned by the man who killed them.

"You're mine" He yells in my face. I wince. "My family, you killed them" I say barely above a whisper.

He raises his fist in the air. I see the insanity in his eyes, and then,

I see nothing.
