"Are you sleepy, Kate?" Aaron asked his wife as he rolled over in bed for the eighth time. She gently rubbed her eyes and looked over at the clock. 2:17 am. "Nope," she replied softly. His hand travelled gracefully under the sheets and over to her stomach. Reaching under her shirt, he rubbed his rough hand over her soft tummy as he sighed. "Any reason you can think of that both our schedules have been so off lately?" he turned his head to face her as he spoke in a hushed voice, inches from her ear. She shook her head. "Not really. Maybe it's because you've been so stressed at work. Having you leave to go perform all over the country and then coming home on random nights probably has both of our schedules thrown off," she suggested, turning on her side. She knew when he was stressed, and it made her uneasy as well. She took Aaron's arm and wrapped it around her and readjusted her head onto his bare chest. He caught on, and grabbed her in a bear hug, squeezing her gently. He knew she did this to feel comfort and protection-two things he'd always made it a point to offer her. When he married her, they both knew his career wasn't going to be an easy one. Not only because of his constant traveling, but also he was famous. All the struggles that come with fame was put on her when she attached herself to him. Paparazzi, article judgments, and reviews surrounded them. They did all they could just to stay away from it all.
Aaron bent his head down and kissed her repeatedly on the forehead. He was only going to kiss her once, initially, but it was addictive to him. He playfully kissed all over her face, from her forehead, to her rosy cheeks and nose. She giggled like a high schooler on a first date, like it was all new to her. She rubbed his right bicep, feeling his tight muscles. He desperately needed to relax.
"Why don't you roll over onto your stomach and I'll give you a back massage? You need to unwind, baby" she spoke in her sweetest voice. Aaron groaned as he stretched out his wingspan, and then raised an eyebrow. "Just a back rub?" he asked her. Kate hesitated. "We'll see," she said with a wink. He smirked and rolled onto his stomach. She got into position and straddled the small of his back. She began running her hands across his back, from his shoulder blades down his spine. With his eyes closed, soft moans escaped his mouth as he exhaled deeply into his pillow. She found his tense areas and worked hard on them, rubbing his stress away. He allowed his mind to drift off, to different pleasant situations. A soft humming tune came from him, catching Kate off guard. She couldn't help but smile at how adorable he was. She stared at his back, biceps, and his thick neck. 'Gosh, I love this boy,' she though to herself. When Kate thought he was finally asleep, she slowed her pace. He began to mumble incoherently. She put her ear close to his face, trying to make out anything he was saying in his sleep.
Aaron drifted off into a deep sleep. His dreams and thoughts took him to a performing stage. His sleeping mind brought him back to his days as the familiar character of Enjolras, a war rebel in Les Miserables. During practice, he stepped out into the deserted stage, looking out to the empty chairs filling the performing house. Lines came to him, and he went off on a speech about liberty. "Shall we stay tucked away in our houses praying for a miracle, or do we take action against the French government before all of the freedoms we've come to know are sucked away from us!" His fists clenched and his jaw was of stone. He looked down and realized he no longer wore jeans and a tee shirt, but was transformed into a rebel of France. He was girded in full costume, allowing him to act out more fully. He looked from his chest to the empty seats. Only now, each seat had a face. They stared at him, and the other actors that now joined him on the stage. Aaron was startled by the loud pang of music blaring from off stage. Unanimously, the cast sang together, Aaron joining in when he caught onto the words. Aaron performed the rest of the play perfectly-it was a character he was born to play. He reached the last of his scenes. The barricade stood tall at the Musian, hiding all the rest of the valiant men who stood against the King. Enjolras ran up the back steps to the balcony where he would meet his end. Strongly, he hoisted himself up the edge of the room, leaving room for the French soldiers to enter. With one man by his side, he refuses to relent his mission, holding the French flag like it was all he had left. At the captain's orders, Enjolras breathed his last breath, and shots rang around him, piercing the fierce heart that lay within him.
Aaron's body jolted awake, sweaty and erect. The sound of the muskets still rang in his mind. Kate sat at the opposite side if the bed, staring at him with concern. She crawled over to him, wiping the sweat away from his forehead.
"Baby, are you okay?" Kate asked, a bit afraid of Aaron's behavior. He had been mumbling and tossing a lot in his sleep, but she figured not to wake him since he was struggling with sleep previously. He laid his head back on his pillow, and he focused on steadying his breathing. "I'm okay. I just had a dream I was shot, like Enjolras," he said blank faced. Kate laid down next to him, not knowing what to say. Aaron put his head in her breast, and she stroked his hair. "Everything is okay, sweetie," Kate whispered. "Kate, tell me you love me. Enjolras died without love..." Aaron's heart still beat fast and he seemed extremely distracted.
"Aaron there is nothing in the world that could ever make me love you more or any less than I already do," Kate whispered. "Don't leave me, please," Aaron said, as if it was actually a possibility.
"Never."
