Sitting on the bus was a general thing for me. I always sat in the middle , closest to the window. I wasn't fond of being dramatic- I felt travel sick if I sat anywhere else.Looking out of the window , I watched as traffic sped by - interrupting the interesting city scape as we went by.
I zoned out , closing my eyes.
"Katie sit up straight!"
"Yes mamma!-"
"Did you hear about Kendal's party ?- it was a massive blow out. Not even the geeks showed"
"Oh wow- no kidding ! She's such a prissy little princess."
"Next stop: Castleton Square."Some of the voices blurred , but I kept listening for the familiar tone of the announcer - waiting for my stop.
"Look , sir you can't get on the bus if you can't afford your fair."
"I can afford it ! You're not accepting my change!"
A voice, clearly irritated brought me out of semi sleep. The scene had caught the attention of quite a few members on the bus .It was between the bus driver , and some college student.
Narrowing my eyes , I caught sight of my college emblem on his identification card.
The bus driver was clearly irritated.
I dived in my bag, grabbing my purse as I weaved to the front of the bus.
"- Is there a problem with his fair?" I asked gently.
The driver snorted.
"Miss there's no need for you to be involved , please retake your seat."
"And there's no need for rudeness." I chided gently , looking at the two. The college student didn't seem impressed I was treating him like a child and neither did the bus driver.
"How much is his fair?" I asked , and the driver begrudgingly told me.
"I'll pay." I dismissed the protesting groan from besides me and I paid for him. I grabbed his wrist and towed him to where I was sat and he begrudgingly kicked his bag under the seat next to me and sat down."Listen . I've never seen you on this bus before , so I'm gonna go easy on you." I muttered quietly , until he raised his hand.
"I'll pay you back." He interjected.
"I don't care about the money. I care about your reputation . If you argue with bus drivers they won't let you on." I grunted , and his expression changed to one I couldn't quite describe." You don't even know me." He said - I laughed. I honestly thought he sounded like a whiney teenager.
"By the sounds of it , you don't even know yourself." I teased , although his facial expression changed and I grew quiet. I'd touched a nerve.I returned to looking out of the window , watching the urban jungle of decay whizz by.
There were millions of people falling in love.
Thousands falling out of love.
Hundreds making up after an argument -"Hey - I didn't really get your name."
And I had the delightful luck of sitting next to the most annoying person in the world .
