Back in the village, I sit down and think about what I've seen. Maybe some natural disaster happened here, some people were killed and everyone else escaped. If you couldn't get out in time you were put in that pile, I guess. I trudge back to our house and when I arrive, it suddenly hits me---this is the first time I have truly been alone. I would have never thought I would miss my parents so much. Closing my eyes, I lull myself to sleep.

In the morning, I walk into the forest and set four snares. I need more food because I missed lunch and dinner yesterday. After catching one rabbit and one wild boar, I cook them and eat my fill. Satiated, I run back to the village and down to the rice paddies. From there, I slide down the paddy fields' hills until I come to the glade behind the paddies. And, there it is again—the cave. The entrance yawns in front of me like a gigantic maw of a creature. Taking a deep breath, I venture inside.
