Death did not seem amused when he was met with three pairs of questioning eyes. "Well, now, this has gone way too far."

Dean stepped forward first. "We-"

"Need my help to turn you into spirits to rescue Castiel from heaven, yes I've heard."

"So you'll do it?"

"Why should I? Give me a good reason."

"Because there is still a scrap of decency left you that is heart. Adding to that, Cas is my best friend so I will do anything to get him back. And there is a war going on and he's the only angel we've got on our side with guaranteed help. So unless you want hell on earth, literally, please help us."

Death looked from one face to another. From Dean's desperate one to Sam's stoic face to Jimmy's terrified and confused face. His eyes lingered on Jimmy, scrutinizing him. "You are Castiel's vessel."

Jimmy swallowed. "How did you know that?"

"I'm older than everything, Jimmy Novak," he said, which made Jimmy's eyes widen. "Perhaps older than God, so yes, I know things."

"Okay, calm down, both of you." Dean broke up the argument before it began. "So, Death, can you do it?"

"I don't know, can I?"

Dean sighed. It seemed that Death was eager to pick a fight with them this evening. "Will you do it?"

"Even if I could, I cannot. To return to heaven myself is to commit disobedience and that is something I cannot risk. However, I can still help you, Dean."

"You can?"

"Meet me at the warehouse four blocks away at midnight." He was gone before they could ask him why.

Dean turned to Jimmy and Sam. "Well, seems we've got a couple hours to crash before midnight."

Sam nodded. "In the meantime, we should keep busy. Jimmy, do you want anything?"

Jimmy shrugged. "No, not really."

"Okay. Call me or Dean if you need anything."

"Don't forget about me, ya idjits!" came a voice from outside.

Sam rolled his eyes. "And Bobby, too. I'll be upstairs if you need me."

Jimmy nodded, but as Dean turned to go, he called, "Dean?"

"Yeah?"

"Could I talk to you for a minute?"

Dean exchanged a weird look with Sam (he'd been doing that a lot lately) and sat beside Jimmy. "Sure. What's up?"

Jimmy moistened his lips before speaking. "It seems to me you and Cas have a good relationship?"

"Yes......" Dean didn't know where this was going and he didn't want to find out. "Why?"

"I don't know, it's just...I sort of have this feeling that you two are...closer than friends."

"Where did you get that idea?"

"I'm not sure, it just sort of popped into my mind."

"I'm not gonna lie to you, Jimmy. I like him...a lot. I just don't know how to tell him."

"Just be yourself. He likes you for who you are, doesn't he?"

Now Dean squinted his eyes and joked, "Are we having the father/big brother talk?"

Jimmy laughed, a pleasant sound that reminded him of Castiel. "Yeah, I guess so."

The two were silent for a while, listening to the crickets and Bobby fix up a car outside. As Sam came down, probably for a beer, Dean turned the conversation to more serious matters. "Jimmy, I hate to have to tell you this, but you're in danger."
