Hey Peoples! So this is my first short story so bear with me. I wrote this a while ago and found It when I was going through my old story's and I decided to publish it. Hope you like it!

I step back and admire her painting. "What do you think?" Sara asks.

"I think it looks great. The bright colors splash the couple on the canvas with light and make them look like they are dancing around on the paper."

"Thanks" she says and looks at me quizzically. I shrug. "Anyway, we aren't here to talk about me and my paintings now, are we. No, we are here to talk about us. Me and my husband that is. Now where do we begin?" She wipes her hands on her pants and follows me to the couch. I get out my notepad and wait for her to begin.

"I was 19 at the time and had been in town not only a week. I had never been to a city that was bigger than New Orleans before. I was barely scraping by and didn't have a job yet. My parents would send me money from time to time. I was living in an apartment that only had three rooms: the kitchen/living space/dining space, the bathroom and one bedroom. I converted the area where the dining room table was into my studio and hung a curtain up between the living room and dining area. I sold my paintings and drawings on the street below the apartment for a living.

"One night I had went to go get grocries and ended up being later than I planed because by the time I left it was already dark. I had turned down a path that I thought was the shortcut I had taken the last few times but it wasn't. I was lost and I knew it so I tried asking people for directions but there wasn't anyone there but a group of men in the corner. I knew I shouldn't have but I was young and stupid and desperate. I try not to think of what would have happened if he wasn't there. He was walking past the alley we were in and heard the noise. He came and when he saw the look in my eyes he knew what was going on. 'hey' he had said. 'you stay away from her' that was when he started throwing punches. He was like my anonymous prince charming

"That night I was so scared I could hardly move. He- he said his name was nick- scooped me up in his arms and carried me all the way home. I told him my address and when we got to my apartment he searched my bag until he found my keys. When he did he opened the door layed me on my bed, locked the door and left. I didn't think I would ever see him again. Him and his chestnut colored hair and sparkling blue eyes."

The room was silent for a second while it soaked in. I was the one to break the silence.

"Well did you?" I ask, bringing her back to the present.

"Did I what?" she asks.

"Did you ever see him again?!"

"You'll have to wait and see." She said getting up to take her coffee cup to the sink. "Come back tomorrow and I'll tell you."

"Fine" I say grumpy and walk to the door.

"See you tomorrow, Em." Sara calls after me.

"See you tomorrow" I call back and walk out the door. It is funny how well she knows me.

Well I hope you enjoyed it!

'till next time,

Emma
