The Choosing

The beginning

"Adelynn," my dad yells while shaking me, "Wake up your going to be late.
Shocked I sit up and look at my clock. It's 8:50 and the introduction ceremony starts at 9. I have ten minutes to get ready and be there, I think to myself.
"I'm going to be late," I say and jump off my bed grabbing my clothes.
I start swiftly sliding on the dress my father chose me to wear for the ceremony. I grab my suitcase and run down the stairs and out the door.
"Adelynn," Alexa calls from the other wide of the road.
"Hey," she smiles, "we should probably be there by now but I think we will be okay."
I nod and we run with our bags on our backs. When we make it to the town square, where the mistress and master will give there speeches about the system, we notice that the area is packed and that there is no way we will be able to here the speeches.
"Alexa how are we going to here or see anything, we will miss it all," I start to freak out.
Alexa grabs my arm and pulls me toward a gap in the people that I didn't see before. We good through some people and gradually get closer and closer to the front where the mistress and master stand waiting for everyone to quit down.
"Ladies and gentlemen. Every month we start a new Wallowdale system for the newly turned 16 year olds of this town," the mistress begins, "You all are here to find your true live, and trust me every one of You has one. We will split you up between guys and girls so we don't have mixing of gender. The boys will follow Mr. Frolic, the master and the ladies will follow me your mistress Mrs. Frolic. Today we will be showing you the cafeteria one of the only places you guys and girls will be sharing, Your rooms, and the training and testing areas. Does anyone have any questions?"
No one raises their hands and the mistress beckons us us to follow her. The guys go one direction and we go the other.
The first place we see is the rooms. There are four different rooms with a lot of beds in them.
"This is where you ladies will be sleeping for the next 2 years so pick Your beds wisely."
Me and Alexa decide to get beds in the corner of the first room right next to each other.
"I'll give you half an hour to get settled in then I'll be taking you to the bathrooms," before she leaves I raise my hand, "yes?" Mrs. Frolic says.
"Is there dressing room?" I question nervously hoping I don't have to change in front of all these people I don't know.
"Of you don't want to change in front of everyone you can go to the test room but that's all the way down the hall and the boys rooms are down that way so be warned you may see some things you don't want to see if you go to the restrooms to change."
I nod my head and start putting my clothes in the dresser under my bed. It's kind of cool how we have dressers built in our beds. That's one pleasure people in our area of town don't get.
I finish setting up right in time. Mrs Frolic comes into the room and summons us to follow her.
"We will start our tour with the restrooms. Every day after testing and practice you Will take a shower than head to dinner," She starts to point at the shower areas that are divided by curtains.
Now the bathroom is the one room we have exceptions for you girls and the guys to kind of mingle. You don't get to share showered the boys have there side and you girls have your side, but you can talk to one another. If you do end up liking or dating," She says while rolling her eyes, "just know it won't last long unless you and you boyfriend are ment to be together."
Most of the girls start giggling when they hear this but I could care less.
She starts walking out of the bathroom and down the narrow hallway we came in from. We walk down to some double doors which she opens to reveal a huge cafeteria.
"This obviously is the cafeteria. You will have breakfast, lynch, and dinner in here with the boys."
Then we walked down some stairs and ended up in a room with a stage, some practice areas, and a clothing center. It's full of costumes and dresses. Things people wear when they are preforming
    "While we wait for dinner, the mistress stars, "I will teach you about the training and practice room. I will also be giving you your first assignment."
    There is mumbling in the background and girls are whispering under there breath.
    "Now don't tell the boys or the master that I'm giving you your assignment," She yells us "we are supposed to give it to you during dinner, but I want you ladies to succeed at finding a husband so I'm giving you this time to do the assignment. The assignment is find many different ways to express your personality. Tell is about your self. One catch is you have to preform all of your hobbies.
    Many of the girls start to freak out or get excited.
    "Get to work ladies you will be preforming your talents and hobbies Friday this week. You will also be writing a paper about your self and you Will read it aloud. For everyone including the guys to here."
    The mistress leaves and every girl splits into there usual clicks. Alexa turns toward me and seems super excited about this whole thing, while I am questioning every thing about myself.
    "I can't wait to show everyone my dance moves. I will create a new routine and everything, it will be so fun." She goes over into one of the rooms with a door and shuts it.
    I start to think of all the things I believed I was good at. Lets see I guess I'm good at singing and I guess I can draw but not that good. I think I'll just stick to singing, I think to myself.
    I walk to the room next to the one Alexa is in.
    What song am I going to sing. Do I sing a classic sing older a modern song.
    I look and see a book. Song book. I walk over and open the book. It had all sorts of songs. The book started at soprano and went all the way to alto. I dig through looking for a song to catch my eye and stop on page 32. Have you seen but a white lily grow. That was the title. I look it over and head toward the piano in the room.
    After a little while of practicing someone knocks on the door and tells me to come out. When I'm out the door I see that everyone is following the Mistress to the cafeteria. The tables are set with food and look pretty classy. I find Alexa and we sit next to each other and start loading our plates. There are many exquisite foods some I've never even seen or heard of before. While we eat a three guys come sit at our table.
    "Hey, you girls seemed pretty lonely over here mind if we sit?" one of the boys asked.
    He has dirty blonde hair and wore glasses. He seemed scrawny but When he reached for some good I could see his muscles through his shirt.
    "Sure," I say, "my name is Adelynn. I reach my hand out and he shakes it.
    "I'm Maliki, he says smoothly.
   I smile and begin to eat the food I took.
    "Ladies and gentle men," the Master called out to everyone, "today is your first day, I know, but you already have an assignment. You have to write about yourself. It had to at least 1 page long and you have to preform all of your talents and hobbies after reading your paper allowed."
    The Master walks off somewhere and everyone continues there conversations and eating.
    After I was done eating me and Alexa head to out rooms early so we don't have to change in front of everyone.
    "So what are you doing for your talent or hobby?" Alexa asks me.
    "Oh I'm singing. I found this really cool sing in this book and that's the one I'm going to preform."
    Alexa smiles at me, yawns, and rolls over to go to sleep. I turn the other the direction and fall asleep before the other girls even get to the room.
