Chapter 4
When my tour ended was the best day of my life. Those six months felt like twenty years. FaceTime and IM definitely didn't do enough. Those stolen few minutes every day didn't fill the gap. Didn't soothe the ache of missing him.
Different time zones. And then he had his own job to do too.
I know it was hard on him. Most of our conversations ended in tears and empty promises.
Me promising to fly back to see him but never able to most of the time because of some promotional thingy that came up and I couldn't miss it because they're in my contract.
Him crying and screaming at me that strangers have better access to me via a ticket to one of my concerts while he had to make do with my face on a screen.
But after today. After today I'll be exclusively his.
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Jeff asks for the hundredth time.
"Yes Jeff. This is it for me." I sighed wishing he'd wrap this meeting up quickly.
"OK, only charities and you'll supply the label with songs and singles for the next five years. Your boys Drake and Rizzo will be paid as usual for each song and performance and five percent of all salaries to be split between the charities of your choosing every three months." Jeff re-read the clause before slipping the contract back into his briefcase.
"You're a bastard." he said but smiled anyway.
"See you around Jeff." I muttered and stood with Drake and Rizzo. We all shook his hand and left the building together.
"Guys." I sighed once we were outside.
"Hey, don't sweat it man. It is a sweet deal." Drake shrugged.
"Yea man. I can finally go to my kid's concerts. Be a dad." Rizzo smiles putting on his shades like we just won a murder trial. Drake and Rizzo made up my band. We've been together since day one; the others were company men so I didn't have to worry about them.
"Man, I can finally live in my house. Maybe find a nice guy and settle down." Drake says running his fingers through his hair.
I still can't help but worry. I know if we had signed another standard contract we'd have been swimming in money. Endless tours, concerts, red carpet events and all the rags that came with it.
"Would you quit worrying already? We'll be alright. We'll do your songs whenever the label wants them, the concerts whenever needed. And in case you forgot we made millions in the last six years." Rizzo slaps my back.
"Yea, Rizzo's wife knows how to invest so we good over here." Drake smiles.
"Guess this is it then. Gabe and the Angels will only be making guest appearances huh?" I laughed when Rizzo pouts.
"Well it was fun while it lasted in the fast lane as a full time job but I think I'll enjoy being a full time dad and husband more. See you guys around yea?" the three of us did our group hug ritual while Rizzo continues. "Well I gotta go give the wife the best news of her life and then make love like bunnies, maybe make another Rizzo Junior while we're at it?" he winked at us and we laughed.
"Bye guys. Don't be strangers. Callum wanted to have a little get together forever ago. I'll call you guys with the details alright?" I waved at them and got in my car and they did the same.
"Take me home." I smiled at my driver and settled in the back seat.
