Chapter 2- The Dead of Night

I awoke, startled, to the sound of the bushes rumbling outside. I looked over at my clock and saw it was 12:36, and then peered out the window and saw the sky a dark navy blue, but it looked as if the sky were black.

The only thing giving any light outside was the full moon.

And then I heard it. It sounded like someone was stomping on our porch, like they were wearing these 100 pound boots. I quietly got out of bed and walked to the door, I opened it just a little bit so that my head could peek out, and then I looked to see if anyone was awake.

My mom's door was open but the light was off, so I tiptoed over to her door and looked inside to see if she was awake. When I didn't see anything I turned around only to find my mom standing behind me.

"What are you doing?" she asked suspiciously, her eyes narrowing. My eyes darted from her hand, which was holding a baseball bat, to her face repeatedly trying to think of an excuse.

"Umm....I was...I....I wa-...I don't know?" I stuttered hoping she would buy it. Instead her eyes narrowed again but then she just gave a small shrug.

"Shouldn't you be in bed?"she asked.

"I don't know......"I said.

"To your room, now, and go to bed." she said in a stern voice. I nodded my head and slowly walked back to my room, pretending I was going to bed. I got inside my blankets until I heard the soft click of her bedroom door closing.

Then I sprung out from my bed and closed my door quietly, then walked over to the window opening it so I could jump out. I looked down seeing as it wasn't that far down of a jump, and dropped. I rolled in the snow until I hit the trunk of a tree.

Groaning I got up and brushed of the snow. Just then I realized what I was wearing, my plaid boxer shorts and a black tank top! I wasn't even wearing shoes!

I started shivering but just shook it off and walked around the house to the porch rubbing my hands up and down my arms the whole time.

The stomping noise started again when I reached the end of the house. I quietly crawled on my knees until I could peek through the fence. Right there on my porch was Stacie. But it's not Stacie that was making the stomping noise, it was a big, wooden horse with a broom acting as a cane and it had confetti blowing out through tubes that look like cannons.

I was about to ask her what she was doing when I felt a pinch on my hand. Yelping out of pain, I looked down to see I got a splinter and a small cut from a nail that was sticking out of one of the boards. I looked up and saw Stacie bending down with an amused smile plastered on her face.

I jumped back startled but took the splinter out and put my finger in my mouth hoping to stop the bleeding.

All of a sudden Stacie was on the floor clutching her stomach. She was laughing so hard she didn't even make any noise which made me start laughing. Her face was priceless! She was so red!

All the pain in my finger was forgotten until I wiped away the small tears that had formed from laughing.

Finally when we stopped laughing I looked at her with a confused expression.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Hehehe....well I wanted to surprise you but you ruined it. This here my friend, is and Horbannconfettiicannatron."she said proudly.

"What?" I asked.

"I said it's a Horb-"she began but I cut her off.

"I heard you the first time, it was just a retarded name." I said in a duh voice. I looked back at the...contraption wondering what she was going to do exactly with it.

"Oh well I was going to surprise you with it as a 'Back to School' gift."she replied as if reading my mind. Suddenly I was in the snow being squished as Stacie 'Bear Hugged' me.

"Stacie....can't........breathe!" I said her weight slowly suffocating me even though she doesn't weigh anything.

"OH! Sorry!" She quickly got off of me and held out her hand expecting me to take it. I did. When I was half way up she let go of my hand sending me flying back into the snow.

I glared at her and got up my finger, once again, starting to throb with pain but now it was half numb from being in the cold snow on a very cold night.

Hauling the horb- eh whatever it was called to the shed I stuffed it inside and locked the door. Then, with Stacie right behind me, climbed the tree which was right outside my window and jumped inside. The warm air so different from the cold breeze outside.

We talked in my room for hours seeing as we started school on a friday, we had the weekend off of course. It was not even 4 in the morning when we heard a piercing howl. I jolted up in my bed so fast I think I might have gotten whiplash.

Stacie on the other-hand, didn't move an inch. She lied there on the end of the bed with her feet hanging off and snoring lightly. A small pool of drool on her math homework. I made a disgusted face at the drool, I started for my open window. The curtains were lashing around wildly but there wasn't any wind..It was as if everything was still. I peered out into the blanket of white until my eyes were held captive by a pair of golden eyes.

I couldn't make out anything around it because the sky was still black and the figure was at the edge of the forest, but in far enough to be unseen. A low rumble escaped the chest of the figure and I stepped back from the window like someone slapped me in the face. It was so loud it sounded so close!

I looked out the window, scanning the area once more, not seeing the beautiful golden eyes anymore I shut the window and crawled into bed. My eyes fluttered closed and I immediately saw the golden eyes before falling into a peaceful sleep.

Good? Bad? Needs more flow? Tell me please. And thanks for fanning some of you!
