standing in the mirror, marina examined her reflection. dark, slightly greenish, blue eyes stared back. they were filled with nothing but a melancholy kind of sadness; nothing raged, nothing burned. she was over her ex. she knew that. pulling through her strands of dark, brown hair, she sighed. she stood in the mirror, only a baggy sweater hanging off her shoulders. her thighs were littered with scars, some fresh, some only faded memories.the australian accent she had come to adore called for her, his feet padding through the hallway wood floor. "mari?" he asked, his voice quiet. a small smile reached her lips, in spite of herself.
"in here, ashton," she replied, her london-tainted, soft voice ringing out clearly through the early morning rain silence.
he smiled, a sort of sweetness she loved claiming his soft lips. "come on, mari, let's go watch that cartoon you love."
she knew she was too old for tom and jerry, but the way he smiled and brightened her day made her feel like being too old didn't exist. she wasn't nineteen. she wasn't growing older. she wasn't broken.
she was ageless; clean, pure, and she was everything she had aspired to be years ago.
nodding, she took his hand, letting him lead her to the living room.
it was okay.
