A/N: I wanted this first part done by Valentine's Day and it happened! Yay! (let's just ignore the fact that I should be studying for my German exam rn). I'm planning on there being three parts. I was inspired by the fact that Milo will be back to play Jess in the Gilmore Girls reboot! I'll always hold out for Jess and Rory.

Mitch walked alongside his dad as he talked about his plans for the day. This was their routine. Mike would walk with Mitch to his stop and talk about what he would do with his day. Mitch would listen and give comments when necessary, but normally it wasn't necessary. Mike could carry on a conversation well without prompting.

It was a rather chilly morning, the breeze nipping at Mitch's nose and ears. He moved his hands from his book bag straps into his pockets, trying to warm them up and mentally cursing himself for not bringing his gloves that were lying on his desk and serving no use.

Mitch looked up from his feet that were clad in his black dress shoes as his dad slowed down next to him. He saw Rick and Scott Hoying in front of him. Rick and Mike had been friends for years. Scott had recently moved to town to live with his dad. All Mitch had gathered from the situation was that Scott had been giving his mom some problems, so she thought perhaps his dad could get him to straighten up.

Mitch and Scott had talked on multiple occasions before, but never got too into detail about why he was now here. They mostly talked about books and music, finding that those were two things they could relate to easily with one another.

Mitch smiled at Scott as he came to a stop in front of him. "Hi."

Scott nodded his head towards Mitch. "Hi."

Scott then looked over to Mike and decided he should also say hello to him instead of just to Mitch. "Hi, Mr. Grassi."

Mike smiled and reached for Scott's hand, shaking it as he greeted him. "Hi," he looked towards Rick as his hand dropped from Scott's. "Hello, Rick."

"Mike, Mitch," Rick inclined his head towards them. "Glad we got that all over with."

Mitch looked at Scott once again before looking at his dad. "I'll see you after school. Meet at Luke's?"

"Of course."

Mitch leaned over and kissed his dad on the cheek. "Bye," He looked over at the two Hoying's. "See you guys later."

Scott watched Mitch walk off in his khaki pants and his button up light blue shirt with a blazer thrown over top and a diagonally striped tie to top it all off. Under Mitch's left book bag strap Scott knew he would find Mitch's school emblem embroidered there.

Scott focused his attention back to his dad and Mike. "Hey, I'm going to head to school too. See you later."

Before he could get a reply from his dad and Mike he started walking off in the direction Mitch had gone, completely ignoring the fact that he should be heading the other way to school in order to be on time.

He could still see Mitch up ahead by the bus stop as he waited for the bus. He picked up his speed a bit and took longer strides. Scott wasn't sure why he decided he wanted to catch up to Mitch this morning. They weren't the best of friends or anything. Scott would classify them as very good acquaintances. It would be a lie if he said he didn't enjoy the time he spent with Mitch when he would come into Luke's Diner and chat with him while he worked behind the counter.

"Scott," Mitch looked startled. "What're you doing here?"

"I, uh," Scott realized he didn't think this through. "I finished the book."
