Abbie
The alarm went off at 7am, giving me an hour to get ready for college; I smacked the clock until I finally hit the stop button. Groaning I pulled myself out of bed and made my way to the bathroom.
Waiting for the shower to heat up I examined myself in the mirror. I had all the signs of not getting enough sleep last night. Not that I regretted going to the party, I just wished I hadn’t had a drink or stayed so late. The influence of my best friend Morgan, she always got her own way and was currently sleeping in my guest bedroom.
Once I saw that the steam has filled the bathroom I entered the shower, letting the hot water work at my tired and aching muscles. After ten minutes of relaxing I washed my hair and body and got out, shivering at the sudden cold engulfing my body. Quickly grabbing my towel and wrapping it around myself I made my way back into my room to choose my outfit for the day.
I was surprised to see a smug looking Morgan sat on my bed ready for the day ahead, bright and cheery as always. “Why are you little Miss sunshine today?” I asked in an irritated tone. How can anyone be so happy after last night’s drinking session and then falling into bed at 2am? “Well my little storm cloud, guess who got Zane Masons number last night?” she replied, laughing as my jaw dropped. “No freaking way Morgan? How did that happen? I thought he didn’t know we existed, or you existed, he probably still doesn’t know who I am” I babbled excitedly, more awake than before.
“Whoa whoa whoa Abbie Logan take a breath and calm down”, she waited patiently as I calmed down while pulling in my clothes. “Now we’re done with the hysterics, can I tell you what happened?” she laughed. I glared at her and she took it as her cue to continue. “Well I was talking to Adam Mason, he’s the quiet one of the two, and he’s also in my music group, which you should totally join”. “Hey can we get back to the point” I interrupted. “Oh yeah sorry, anyway, I was talking to Adam when Zane came over and asked who the pretty lady he was with was. Then we got introduced, we danced and at the end of the night he gave me his number and asked to see me again” she finished, squealing excitedly.
As I was about to reply my door burst open revealing an unhappy looking Finley, known as Fin, my 17 year old brother, “could you two be any louder? we have to leave in five minutes, and can you try to speak so humans can hear, not just dogs?” and with that he turned and left before I could shout at him for not knocking. “He’s happy this morning,” Morgan mumbled, not expecting me to hear, “We did come in at 2am, drunk of our asses, making a ton of noise and then start the day super early with you squealing,” I sighed.
I pulled on my converse and grabbed my bag before heading out the door to my car, I knew Morgan would follow me, she was too worried I’d leave her behind like I did a few years ago. I walked out to my car to find Fin leaning against it while texting, no doubt his girlfriend. Opening the driver’s door, I threw my bag onto the backseat, next to where Fin had sat down. Morgan threw hers between the seat and it hit him in the leg. “Hey, watch it,” he growled obviously still upset with her. “Sorry Finny” she sang out, causing him to glare at the back of her head, as I giggled.
I started the engine and pulled out of driveway, heading towards college in silence. Suddenly Morgan broke my morning peace, “so I’m gonna ask Zane to sit with me at lunch,” my stomach lurched at the idea, I’m not popular, he is, he may see me and run away, or take Morgan away. “Are you sure that’s a good idea? He’s never seen me he might get scared,” I could hear Fin laughing in the backseat, which wasn’t helping my sudden nerves. “SHUT UP FIN” Morgan scolded, ending his laughter, which was replaced with another death glare to the back of the head. “You’ll be fine, they’ll love you Abs,” Morgan said soothingly. After that we all fell silent as I drove on.
I pulled into the college parking lot, going into a space near the front. Fin was out of the car before I’d even taken the keys out of the ignition. “Bye then,” I sighed after his retreating form. I got out of my car and locked the and locked the doors quickly before following Morgan to the large entranceway.
Our college is nothing special; it’s a red brick building that has huge glass doors at the front. Lockers line the left wall until you reach a square room full of more lockers. The right side has doors that lead to the science rooms and labs. At the end of the long corridor on the left is the cafeteria and on the right is the gym. The second floor has the Art and English rooms, and maths and language are on the third. The top floor has all the other subjects’ rooms. Morgan and I have history first, so we have to make our way up the top floor, we’d already missed registration, so didn’t bother to go find our tutor.
After deciding to race each other up the stairs we had ten minutes before our first period started. We were both relieved; as it gave us time to look more presentable, nothing worse than going into a room full of people red faced and out of breath.
Five minutes later the rest of our class arrived and we all went to our seats. “I asked Zane about sitting with us at lunch and he said yes” Morgan whispered excitedly. The tutor walked in at that moment so I didn’t get a chance to respond.
After an hour and a half of history and Morgan’s enthusiastic chatter, I was happy to get a few minutes break before psychology. As I made my way to the classroom, which luckily was on the same floor, Morgan stopped to talk to our friend Quinn. I tuned out their excited chattering as I watched the Mason twins walk down the hall.
There and then I decided this was going to be a long but very interesting day.
