Grande Cafe Americano in one hand. Purse and laptop bag in the other. I didn't even have a hand to knock with. I attempted to switch things to one hand, but before I could manage the tall boss made his way around the corner, "Morning Nicole."
He opened the door for me and took his coffee from the holder. "Good morning..." I smiled at him and set up my little station to begin writing about the office responsibilities Rocky had.
It was quiet for about thirty minutes while Rocky answered phone calls and chatted with executives. The sound of his key board varied with his emotions. If it was a serious call, his key strokes were heavier. If he was having a lighthearted chat (though there were very few) his keyboard strokes calmed to a lighter tap. He still talked with his hands.
"Rocky..." I looked up from my place and spoke his name slowly.
"Mmm." He typed.
"How did you get into music?" I asked him.
"I always have been." He clicked away at the keys. "It..." He paused and looked at me with his hands outstretched behind his head, "Calms me?" He questioned. I felt as if he were about to say something else but the phone rang. "This is Rocky," He said seriously. The smile on his face was almost instantaneous. "Well yeah, Ry," He scoffed. "Nah dude, nah," He paused. "Ryland I said I'd be there and I will." He took a deep breath and let out a loud laugh I never thought was even humanly possible from such a serious man. "Alright dude..." He looked up at me, "But uh, could I bring someone?"
His eyes flickered to the floor and back up to me, "Not like a date someone, she's a..." He paused, "A colleague." His eyes looked about as he continued his conversation. "Yeah." He responded, "Rydel will be there too." He rolled his eyes, "Well if Rydel is there then I'm pretty sure Ellington will be." Another pause, "Okay man, I'll-we'll see you soon." He clicked the phone off and went back to typing, "We'll be going to lunch today."
"With?" I asked him.
"In time..." Was his slow response.
"I'm meeting someone?" I typed slowly the words 'Rydel, Ryland, and Ellington. Siblings? Friends?'
"Three someone's." He said.
I let the silence go on until he called for Max to come and he stood up. "Come along." He ordered me. As we got into the car Rocky turned to me with a serious look and stated clearly, "Remember what I said about my family. They mean a lot to me. So don't eff it up."
"Deal." I told him, "I'm here to observe."
"Exactly." He nodded his head and then it got quiet. We got out at a nice restaurant and Rocky opened my door for me. I offered a quiet thank you and stepped out onto the pavement. Rocky opened the restaurant door for me and we both went inside. He strode directly to the hostess and told her, "Reservation under Lynch."
"Two are already here." She responded to him and led us to a booth. A blonde haired girl and a brunette boy with kind of short hair sat next to each other talking.
"Rockyyyy!" The blonde girl piped up and jumped to hug her brother.
"Hey Del." He said.
That must be Rydel?
"What's up man?" Rocky fist bumped the boy and allowed me to sit down in the booth first.
"Who is this?" The boy asked Rocky.
"She's uhhh." He looked at me, "She's interviewing me."
"At our lunch?" The girl asked.
"Yes Rydel." He told her matter of factly, "It's a major interview. Highlighting my life and my accomplishments and how I go about my day to day."
