"Look it's over Collin," I screamed as I left my ex-boyfriend's house. I was in flip flops in the middle of January. My hair was in a messed up side braid and the only thing on my mind was my warm jacket sitting in my car. As soon as I got to the car, I unlocked it and got in. I turned the heater on and tried to get as warm as possible. I turned the key to the ignition and drove off leaving the White House behind. The warmth began to develop as I drove back home. I knew that waiting for me was my angry mother, ticked because I left our fight because I went to go see another boy. We fought so much it just became easy after awhile to win. The house was lit up as soon as I got home. "Heart!" my mother screamed as I got out of my car. She threw her arms around me and hugged me as tight as she could. "I'm fine mom, really," I told her as she gave me that sarcastic look of worry and happiness. "I'm just glad you're home because we have some talking to do," she said as she walked me back inside. And here it is the rest of the conversation I went to Collin's to avoid. "Heart, you're sixteen and you need to stop running to boys to fix your problems. Guys like Andrew, Collin, and Tesher are not gonna support you for the of your life. Plus, each one was abusive in some kind of way." She had a point. Andrew was a pity party, Collin was verbally abusive to my friends, and Tesher was emotionally abusive to me last year when I was a freshman. "I know mom and every time I see a guy like them I want to scream but they also make me feel like I'm a princess for a short period of time. I just like the feeling of seeing them." That's all I could manage after Andrew. "Look Heart it's okay. I know your father is not here with us but I promise he will come see us one day and when that day comes you will feel like a princess forever," she said hugging me. I haven't seen my dad in years. He left when I was eight. He said he'd come back but after five years, I gave up and met Collin. That's when I became an emotional reck. "Mom, I need to go to bed," I told her as I stood up. She hugged me one more time while she prayed over me. I never understood her prayers but they were important to her. I went to bed and that was it.
