Jacob pov
I looked at the unfamiliar house that sat in front of me. I cringed, looking at the tube looking hallway connecting the similar houses. I thought about how it would be living with another internet youth. Especially when that person happens to be a very attractive girl I don't know much about.
I thought she'd be snotty. Spoiled rotten by the parents of the only child, blonde and seemingly perfect. I was warned that sometimes during the night I might hear some screaming but, that's "nothing to worry about." But why would there be screaming in the middle of the freaking night? That's not exactly comforting.
I watched as the window of the similar to mine, yellow houses window opened. It was like an eye. And the girl that peered out of it made me freeze. I was only told that this girl was pretty, given a brief description of her appearance then told she was joining me on magcon.
Nobody told me it was KAREN FUCKING MACINNES. She's like the queen of the grunge-hipsters of the Internet. Her comedy and soppy quotes which forever littered the Internet, always entertained me. She's what I aspired to be.
She smiled then waved and drew her curtains back in. A couple minutes later the same girl emerged from the house looking like a model. She wasn't wearing much makeup if any, had a SnapBack that said, "whatever" in blue italics, and a white "nirvana" muscle tee with black skinny jeans. She dropped her lime green penny board with the blue wheels and rode up the teared pavement pathway.
She kicked it up about six inches away from me and extended a hand. "Hey um hi, I'm Karen, it's uh Jake right?" Her deep but feminine voice floated through the air air like the scent of flowers in full bloom. I smiled. She smelt like forests and sweet lakes and beaches. She smelt like Lakeland, but better.
Btw don't call me a creep but Karen lives at least near Lakeland NY cause she goes to copper beech middle school so yeah.
"Jacob nice to meet you" I laughed a little. "Oh my god I'm such an idiot, terribly sorry, I apologize, see these j's are always confusing me. I couldn't be more embarrassed." Her voice faded away into the summer air, as she readjusted the crooked hat on her head making it more crooked. "It's ok." I nodded. "Once again so sorry, see you around Jacob." She said dropping the board and riding away down the cracky road.
I'm sad she was gone. As least it's summer and on Wednesday and Tuesday's were forced to go to camp together so she can't ignore me. I put all my stuff in my room moving it around the pale blue walls and laid on my bed.
Laughter floated through my window. It was a nice sound, it really was. I looked at the window. There I saw Karen on some boys back. I don't know who this boy thinks he is but if he thinks he can disrespect me in this way I swear to god.
Envy burned a hole deep in my stomach sending back memory after memory. I walked downstairs into the shared kitchen. I grabbed an apple and angrily bit into it.
She walked in laughing constantly. "And then she was like, ""not today honey"" and I was like, 'umm how about I just walk away?" They're laughter continued.
"Oh Ryan, this is Jacob, one of my new flat mates, Jacob this is my best friend Ryan!" She even talked cool. I extended my hand for him to shake. "Sup" he said shaking my hand. She dashed up the stairs him not far behind her. "MOM, DAD ME AND RYAN ARE GONNA BE IN MY ROOM IF YOU NEED US"
I heard her parents shout "ok" before completely processing what had just happened. Her parents let him in her room? He looked like a fuck boy how could he not be?
I just walked up to my room and pressed my ear against the wall as if I would hear anything from her room (the next room over). I heard occasional laughing and little shrieks and "RYAN STOP" or "KAREN NO." I don't have any clue in hell what those two were doing but it sure was loud.
I decided to knock and ask if maybe we can hang out later. I knocked on the door and as if on cue she opened the door pulling it away from my fist.
I felt the red creep up my cheeks as I looked at the ground. "Hey, umm, sorry about that. I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out later?" She nodded. "Yeah, I'm just gonna take Ryan home then, we can go for a walk."
I put on a hat and fixed my hair. Was this like a date? I guess so kinda.
When Karen came back she put down her penny board and we walked out of the house.
"So why is it called Lakeland?" I asked looking into her eyes. They were slightly squinted. I noticed she avoided making eye contact with me. "I'm about to show you." She took my hand and ran with it.
We ran to a chain link fence, with a gate and door. She unmatched it and we ran down to the sandy area. We sat there looking at it for a while. I ginormous mass of thick dark water and surrounding forests filled with mystery.
"Wanna go in?" She asked perkily. "I don't have my bathing suit with me though?" She laughed. "You need to learn to have a little fun Sartorius." She yanked at the hem of my shirt.
She pulled off her muscle tee and jean shorts leaving her in her spandex boy shorts and sports bra and me in my boxers.
She grabbed my hand again and dragged me into the water. It being cold at first then my body adjusting. We swam out to a deck around the middle of the lake. We climbed onto the wooden platform and sat.
She looked out to water, then the her legs, her stomach, her arms, her wrist, then back to the water again. Her eyes welled with tears and she stared out to keep them from falling blinking her eyes dramatically trying to dry them. I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her into my side. Her pale, but tan, warm skin pressed gently up against that of my stomach.
She moved her shoulder. "Get up." She looked directly ahead. "What?" I asked confused. "Get up." I stood and shuddered with fear. She grabbed my hand. "Someone has to teach you to have fun. And if I has to be, I guess that'll do."
"What do you-" I was cut off by her body being wrapped around mine and us plunging into the water. When we came back up her body was still relatively wrapped around my torso. As she let herself down I felt her gaze fall on my lips.
Next thing I knew, she went on her tippy toes and pressed her lips softly on mine. Oh my was this going to be an interesting summer.
