Letter: A mere piece of paper, with zillions of emotions and uncountable memories, written from the deepest chambers of the heart with love.
The Letter
My Beloved Anaisha,
If you are reading this letter, then I'm sure, I'm already dead now because after my death only you'll get this letter, which I very smartly hid in my tent with my other belongings and trunk. *wink*
First of all, I want to apologise to you. Sorry, for this pain and suffering. Sorry, for making you a young war widow. Sorry, for making Kaisha a fatherless child. Sorry, for burdening you with the responsibilities of my surviving family: my parents, my younger sister and our daughter. Sorry, for not being able to be there with you while I was alive and when you needed me. Sorry, for not being the ideal, romantic husband, who should've showered you with love and affection. And lastly, sorry, for never telling you how much I really loved you. I'm very sorry!
Now coming to the reason for this letter...well, I'm a serviceman, Anaisha, and there's a high chance of me not returning home, which I think became true this time because I already mentioned under what circumstances you'd be reading this letter.
I'm writing this letter only because I want you to know, each and everything that I should've told you in person when I was with you...I couldn't and I bitterly regret it, extremely guilty for not ever telling you all this before. But I don't want to depart from this world with any regret or without sharing a piece of myself with you. I know, it won't eradicate your pain, but atleast you'll know that our silence was always cherished by me.
So...let me begin from the very start, the day I first saw you. You remember, the base party you had accompanied your father to some seven years back, which I attended as a Captain...I fell in love with you that very moment. I know it sounds cliché but I fell in love with you at the very first sight. It was the first time I ever felt so much attracted toward a girl, whose name I wasn't even knowing. And yes, you were the prettiest girl in that party, blue suits you a lot and your knee length dress just complemented you, though I was extremely jealous when my fellow colleagues were drooling on you as well.
Coming back to the story, it took me much flattering and buttering, to finally learn your name from a senior of mine who happened to be acquainted to your family. Anaisha...your name itself made me fall even more hopelessly in love with you than I already was. Special, your name means, and you will always be the most special person in my life.
After I learnt your name, I informed my parents about you and that if I ever get married, I'd marry you only. You'd laugh on reading what Dad had told me :
"Great! A Doctor and a Fauji, perfect match! You keep getting wounds, and she'll continue curing them."
I was very clear on this matter, but my parents weren't. You know they thought I was this 25-year-old guy who was crushing on an 18-year-old medical girl. And as neither of us were actually of marriageable age...okay, only you, my parents didn't take this matter seriously, thinking I'd change my mind. But I was very clear, you'd become my wife or I'd stay single my entire life.
Time kept moving and I was working my way hard toward becoming a true serviceman. But you know what? It was always you who kept me motivated and strong through everything. Crazy, I know but I had managed to get a picture of yours, and I carried it with myself every time I was in combat or field posting. I considered you my lucky charm. And I wanted to be worthy of you. Most of all, meet you once more.
