Hyejin

10:26 pm

It's late. I normally close my shop at 10 pm sharp but I'm secretly waiting for him. I don't even know if he's coming, but, I'm sure he will. After all, I need to make him taste my freshly baked carrot cake - which he promised that he will despite his dislike for carrot. God, he's so cute. The way he smiles at me showing his bunny like teeth. The way he looks at me like he's so into me. Not just me but also my not-so-finely baked cakes and cookies.

I mean, I'm an average baker. I run a small bakery shop that hardly gets more than 10 customers everyday. My mother and I initially started this little business together but at the moment it's just me since she went to look after my sick grandfather back in my hometown Ilsan.

I keep taking glances at the wall clock across the counter to check the time every 5 seconds as I'm wiping the tables one by one. I really need to close and leave. I'll probably miss my bus today and end up walking all the way to my place which takes about 45 minutes, which I definitely am not up for.

I wear my bagpack a few minutes later and move to switch the lights off, ready to leave when--

"Hyenjin!" A very familiar voice shouts addressing my name as he enters through the door making a slight 'ding' noise.

I don't take much time to speak up.

"Jungkook, you're late." Wow, I sound like me and him are going on a date but he was late to show up at the meeting point or something.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't leave the studio earlier." Jungkook scratches the back of his neck in embarrassment and looks at me with a sheepish smile.

"Studio?" Wait, I thought he was a regular high school student.

"Uh, nevermind that." He steps closer to me to push his hands forward abruptly while holding a little bag.

"What's this?" I look up at him and then down at the bag with a small smile.

"See it for yourself." He gives me shy smirk avoiding my gaze and I think I like that.

I take the bag from his hand to take out its content. It's a box I think. A moderately heavy one.

But Jungkook stops me by holding my wrist and retreating as soon as he does.

"Wait. Hyejin... I want you to see this when you go home."

"O-okay..." He just made me more curious.

"So, uh, you wanted me to try the carrot cake?" He walks past me to avoid the awkward atmosphere.

"Check the refrigerator, will ya?" I follow him to the kitchen and turn the lights on while he grabs the plate from the fridge and digs in.

"So, how is it?" I ask him, a little nervous to be honest.

"I don't like carrot in general but this is good." He gives me a genuine smile and I can't help feel a little good inside.

After he finishes his cake, he tries to pay for it but of course, as usual I don't let him. I just can't.

We step outside of the shop after he helps me close it and everything. I have his gift in my hand. I wonder what's in there. I hope he didn't give me something that I don't deserve. What am I thinking...? He doesn't even have reasons to give me something expensive. Okay I think I'm going too far with my thoughts.

I hear him clear his throat to gain my attention. I turn my head around at his direction almost too instantly. He looks familiar sometimes. Like someone I have met before he started showing up here.

"You wanna take a little walk?" He asks me so innocently, I almost say yes - when I remember that I actually have to walk to home today. It's pretty late already.

"I really want to, but, I have to go home you know." I smile at him apologetically.

"Oh no, it's fine. I can at least walk you to the bus station if you don't mind." He tries not to sound too flustered.

"Well, I missed the bus."

Upon hearing that, his eyes widen quickly and he starts to mutter apologies - which, I find so cute, I start laughing at him.

"Jungkook, it's alriiiight. I can walk you know. I got two stro-"

"Can I at least give you a ride to your place? Please?"

"It's okay! You don't have to."

"I don't care if you refuse."

Before I could say anything anymore, he grabs my hand and starts walking to the direction of his shiny black car. It looks like he bought it very recently.

He opens the passenger seat door for me and I get in without wasting another moment protesting him. It'll be useless anyway.

He quickly gets in the car and starts the engine before facing me to ask, "Where do you live Hyejin?"

"Hey, no need to rush. You wanted to take a little walk. You wanna do that?" I ask him, hoping he says yes because I really don't mind.

"It's okay. We can do that some other day. You look tired today."

I involuntarily yawn. I really do need some sleep.

"See?" He chuckles.

"Alright alright."

After 15 minutes or so, we reach the building where I live in.

"Wait." Jungkook says while getting off the car. I watch him walking to my side quickly and opening the door for me. I couldn't help but smile at his chivalrousness as I get off.

"What are you smiling at?" He asks me avoiding my gaze. So shy.

"Nothing really. Thank you so much for giving me a ride home Jungkook."

"You're welcome Hyejin. Stay safe."

"I'll be going then." I turn around to enter the building when suddenly I feel a tug at my wrist causing me to turn back around only to find Jungkook a few inches apart from my face.

"Jungkook...?"

I couldn't say much before a kiss landed on my left cheek which left me stunned. I blink to focus my gaze at anywhere except at him.

"Goodnight Hyejin." He whispers close to my ear.

"Um, yeah, goodnight Jungkook." I try to hide my blushing face and hurried my way inside the building. I think he heard my heart beating too loud.
