Prologue

The black escalade stopped at the corner, two men clad fully in black stepping out. The first faces the looming forest whilst the second struggles to drag something out of the boot of the car. A body.

The first finishes scanning the forest and turns around and gives the second a hand. “Shit, I thought these things were meant to be light” The second man said, dropping the body on the hard tarmac covered road.

“Oi, boss said to just drop it on the edge of the forest and the beasts will do the rest. Now shutup! your voice is gonna’ draw in the bloody things.” The first man said harshly, struggling to pick it up. “Well come on then!”

The second man just grumbles and helps drag the body over the curb, finally dropping it just inside the tree line before both men briskly walk back to the car and drive away, tires screeching in the dark, frosty night. Little did the two men know that the so called ‘beasts’ were watching the whole thing.

The beasts prowled closer to the clump sprawled on the forest floor. A young teen pup feeling brave and venturing right up to the clump and sniffing it, quickly retracting when the heavy smell of blood, dirt and sweat reached its sensitive nose. *Alpha, We seem to have a slight problem* The teen mind linked its Alpha.

The Alpha hadn’t felt like going for a run that evening and definitely wasn’t expecting a problem. He ran his pack with a heavy heart. He was known for his ruthlessness in battle but no one outside his pack other than a select few knew just how kind hearted he was. His pack was said to be one of the largest and strongest in the entire Southern Hemisphere, then again, no one truly knew as anyone who went looking never went home to tell the tale. *What sort of ‘slight problem’ are you referring to Jared?* The Alpha answered tiredly.

*Ah, well… * Jared thought it easier that his Alpha saw for himself, so he opened up his mind for his Alpha to search.

*Well… now that is a problem isn’t it* The Alpha replied before shifting into his wolf form and saying *I’m on my, send anyone who isn’t necessary to be there home, keep Cole and Michael with you.*

*Of coarse Alpha, and… did you happen to see Sierra on the way out of the Pack house?.. I mean, it’s… I havn’t spoken to her since our fight last week and… Alpha?* Jared said nervously when his Alpha had gone eerily quite.

The Alpha was silently smirking at how this young pup was swooning over his younger sister, Sierra. *She’s in her room, I saw her on my way out… When I get to the site I’ll relieve you and you may go to your mate, she hasn’t been the same since the fight, even I can see that.*

Jared grinned in his wolf form, suddenly giddy to return to his mate. *Thank you, Alpha*

*Your welcome Jared, now, I’m coming up on your left.* The Alpha replied.

Jared could hear the heavy footfalls of his Alpha and as he turned to his left, ready to receive secondary instructions from his Alpha he was once again, as always, amazed at the shear size and power radiating from the wolf barrelling towards him. The Alpha slowed to a stop beside him before leisurely walking towards the clump and doing exactly what Jared had done.

His Alpha reared back with a slight growl.  *It smells of death. I’m guessing a simple dump and run. Get some guys out here in the morning for a clean up and the- … wait… Jared… call the pack doctor now, it’s still alive!* The Alpha yelled before shifting into his human form.

*Uhm… Alpha?* Jared said also shifting. Then Jared remembered, Alpha’s have more advanced hearing, strength and overall everything than regular wolves. His Alpha could probably detect a heartbeat whereas he couldn’t.

“Now!” The Alpha roared. The Alpha didn’t know why he was feeling so panicked but his heart was racing. He is filled with a sense of dread every time he thinks that this... clump of human could be dead. He moved his hand to the clump before rolling it towards him. A full head of wine red hair was covering the face, mattered with dirt and a remarkable amount of a sticky substance which he assumed to be blood. Moving this aside he could see, he could see the face of this Angel of Death.
