Chapter 3

"Who found you?" I asked you in an urgent whisper. As she continued pacing, Sandra replied, "I lied about how I was in a community. I stole from one 3 days ago and now those 2 are after me including the guy you saved me from. I ate half of their food supply and now they plan to kill me." "So when you asked if you could live with me all you wanted to do was escape those people." I asked in an annoyed tone that grew louder at an exponential rate. As we were coming out from the bushes she said, "No, I would have asked even if I wasn't running away. I'm very sorry about your treehouse." I thought of the tree house for a minute but pushed my sadness and anger away."How did they get ahold of explosives?" "Right before I left they supposedly found an old bombing shelter with a bunch of guns and rocket launchers."

Well that crosses going to her supposed community off the list, and now I'm involved in her mess! I barely managed to suppress my anger before I screamed my head off. As soon as I cleared my head I said, "Well the first thing to do will be to find/make a shelter. After that we can try and find a good source of food and fresh water." "Ok" she responded timidly. As we are walking away she whispered to me, "Thanks for not screaming at me. I probably would have lost it."

I randomly picked a direction and started walking with Sandra tailing close behind. We walked in silence until I started to hear the harmonious crickets that always appeared right before dawn, and I decided we should start making a shelter. "Sandra can you construct a stable lean-to?" I asked. She jumped a little when she heard me speak but she answered in a soft voice, "Yes." I came up to a tree with a very thick trunk with a few spots of soft cushiony algae growing near its base and said, "This spot is perfect for a lean-to. Can you please set one up while I find some game or vegetation for us to eat." "Yes!" She replied in a slightly more confident and upbeat tone.
