Khalif's Point Of ViewMy head peered up hearing the laughter of the girl I had been crushing on since the day she had arrived at the school. I smiled at her, but quickly turned my head once I saw the boy that literally stayed at her arm all throughout the day looking at me.
She was different, she interested me a little to much. The way she wore shades inside of the school, the way she walked cautiously, I have barely even heard her speak.
"Aye stop staring!" My brother Aaquil teased.
I looked at him coldly while turning my attention back on my food.
By the time school let out I was passing by her locker, she was so beautiful it was hard for me to keep my eyes off of her. Her skin seemed so to be so glowing and clear.
The boy that accompanied her everywhere she went, accept for what seemed the bathroom, had walked off somewhere and she stood at her locker awkwardly.
Battling myself I was contemplating wether or not I should walk over to her and say something.
My senses kicked in and I started to walk off until I heard her curse under her breath. I looked back to see her books sprawled out across the floor.
She fell to her knees patting around in literally every place accept for where her books were.
I quickly walked over to her and picked up her books. "Thank you Lucas." She said in a huff.
My eyebrows furrowed "Im-Im not Lucas."
She turned around and frowned. "Who are you?"
I looked down at my shoes then back up at her face studying it. "I'm Khalif."
"I seemed to notice you were new around the school, did you need help around?"
Immediately she became defensive "No I dont! Im not hanicap I can handle myself perfectly fine."
Before I could get even another word out the boy that accompanied her walked up and looked at me "Is everything okay Karolina?"
She shook her head while turning to her locker, I walked away before the situation escalated or became anymore awkward.
When I made it out to my ride Aaquil looked at me like I was crazy "Where in the hell have you been?"
I shrugged "I was talking to the new girl."
"The weird one who is always attached to the hip of that Lucas boy, the one who wears shades all of the time?"
"Yep thats the one."
After a few weeks of trying to ignore her presence in the school I became curious to speak to her again. Soon I was waiting for the right moment to have another conversation with her, and the right moment had came after school when Lucas wasn't at her side. Which was rarely.
"Are you ready to go Lucas?" Karolina asked while feeling through her locker grabbing her book bag.
A sigh passed my lips "It's not Lucas it Khalif."
As she turned around her eyebrows creased "Do I know you?"
"Umm I picked up your books one time the first week you were here you had dropped them on the ground." I said scratching the back of my neck.
Her face scrunched up while she thought but then she said "Ohhh yeah, Im sorry for snapping at you about the whole handicap thing."
I shrugged "No biggie. Umm I was wondering if you'd like to hang out some time."
Without hesitation she spoke "Yeah sure of course."
A smile formed on my lips "How about a movie this weekend?" I asked while my head dropped looking towards my shoes then looking back up at her. She seemed to be looking else where.
"Is that suppose to be funny?" she asked me.
I was confused "What do you mean?" I aske genuinely confused.
I guess she had understood that I wasnt intentionally trying to upset her "You dont know, Im surprised you must not pay attention to things."
What was I not getting that everyone else had been, was I that clueless?
My eyebrows furrowed, but soon after she took her shades off I knew what I was missing out on. Her eyes were a cloudy blue with a grayish coat over them.
"Your blind.." I mumbled under my breath.
She huffed "I can understand if you don't want to hang out anymore."
"No- I still want to hang out, but what is something you'd like to do?"
Karolina rubbed at her arm "I like to cook, maybe on Saturday you could come over and help me cook us up a dinner?"
A smile and a chuckle passed my lips, "What's funny, just because Im blind doesn't mean I cant cook."
I raised my hands in surrender even though she couldn't see them "That's not it, but if I assist you in any sort of cooking I can guarantee you by the time we are done it wont be edible."
Karolina smiled "Here is my number..."

My grand kids surrounded me listening intently to the story of how I first embarrassed myself in front of their grandmother.
"I know grandma got to see again one day after an operation, grandpa she told me! So when did it go away again?" One of the older ones asked.
I strained my memory "I couldn't tell you exactly, but over time it sorta just left just as it came it went away. I guess the operation wasn't permanent."
I felt a hand on my shoulder so I looked up to see my beautiful ageing wife. We had been married for nearly 40 years, and even though it was a challenge with her not because of her eye sight but because of how stubborn she was I loved every minute of it.
It was nothing in this world I'd trade my wife for, not money nor a seeing woman.
The one I had was perfect and I hope and pray that she knew that.
"I'd give my eyes for her to be able to see the world again." I spoke honestly. My grand kids listened to me intently.
Karolina squeezed my shoulder gently
"I dont need sight, I can picture my world clearly. He is sitting right here."
