Gabriel glanced over at his dad. He had tears brimming in his eyes, but he refused to let them free. "Where will we go?" Gabriel said.

"To your grandparents' house. They'd let us stay there, they will. At least they'll let you, anyway." He sighed and turned the corner on a street.

Gabriel shook his head. "Look at you. There's no way they'd turn you away." His dad stayed silent as they drove down the street. "I wouldn't stay there without you there anyway."

He turned to look at him. "Gabe, there are times in life where you have to do things that you don't want to do, but you know are the right thing. I didn't want to leave Jan; I was in love with her. But love is blind." He turned to look at the road again. "They told me to stay away from her." He said in a quieter tone.

Gabriel was shocked to say the least. No wonder he's worried they'll reject him, he thought. "We have to do something," he said, "We can't let this happen to someone else."

"Well what do you figure we're gonna do, Gabriel?" He snapped. "Sorry. I just, I don't want to think about that right this second. I'm more worried about keeping you safe." He sighed and pulled over to a large 2 story house, what Gabriel assumed was his grandparents' place.

"Stay here, I want to explain the situation to them first." He watched as his dad got out of the car and jogged up to his grandparents front door. The window was cracked open a bit, allowing him to hear enough to know what they were saying. His dad rang the doorbell.

As they door opened, Gabriel saw a tall older woman step out. "Jeffrey! What happened?! Oh, my poor baby," she gave him a tight hug. A shorter old man walked out. They began whispering incoherently before the grandma glanced over at Gabriel, smiling sympathetically and nodding. His dad looked back, gesturing for him to come out of the car.

Gabriel sighed and unbuckled his seat belt. His grandma cooed as he walked up. "Oh, how big you've gotten, my grandson! Get your bags, quickly, I want to get you cleaned up right away Jeffrey." She sped over to the trunk of the car, grabbing their backs without another word and was inside in a second. After awhile her head popped out. "Well don't stand there like idiots, come in!"

Catherina Lunes is a strong, independent older woman. She takes nothing from anybody, and can handle herself well in any given situation.

Frederick Lunes is a stubborn older man. He holds close to his beliefs, though is very open to new ideas. "He isn't afraid to tell you when you're wrong," as Gabriel's dad says.

His dad looked over at Gabriel and smiled. Maybe things will turn out for the better.

Gabriel laid down in the bed that was oddly already made, almost as if he was expected to be there. Either way, he was glad to be laying down in a soft bed without fear of his mother.

Drifting in and out of consciousness, he heard talking outside of his room.

"He's a strong boy, he'll hold up." A voice Gabriel recognized as his dad's said.

"I'm not so sure. He's lived a hard life, Jeffrey, you never know how a boy his age will take that kind of trauma." His grandma said.

"You're right. I hope he doesn't hate me too much for being such a coward..."

"He could never hate you, that I'm sure of. You worry too much." Then there were footsteps walking away from the room.

They're right though, Gabriel could never hate his dad.

"I understand this weekend's been a bit traumatic, but you're gonna have to still attend school, Gabriel." His dad shook his head.

"Not even one day?" Gabriel made a last attempt to try to convince his dad to let him off school. Chuckling, he said, "Not even an hour."

"A minute — "

"Get out." He released a loud cry of disappointment and walked out of his dad's old office.

The Lunes residence was quite a beautiful property, to tell the truth. They had a pool, a Jacuzzi, and a garden in the back. There was even a forested area in the backyard. Gabriel
walked out and sat on a lawn chair. The air was crisp and cool, with a slight breeze. Taking a deep breath, Gabriel closed his eyes.

Despite his fear of what's to come, he was content.
