From their first encounter,Louis had passed by Zayn's work station quite often,chatting the raven haired male till sun down when he had time. They would laugh about nonsense,talk about dreams,and sit in comfortable silence for hours on end. Zayn didn't fall easy,but Louis changed something in him. The way his ocean blue eyes would sparkle in the sunlight,or the way his smile would make Zayn's stomach flutter.
Zayn had fell hard. There was definitely no way he would let Louis go easily. But in the town he lived in,being "queer" wasn't to be spoken of,people saw it as an abomination. If it were to be spoken of or if someone had witnessed the 'crime',the witness and the criminals would be brought to great punishment. Resulting in jail time or being hanged to death. Zayn did not want to go down that road.

If a demon goes a while without any points in its Humanity Pool, it will enter a form of Torpor. It will lie inert and unnoticed wherever it finally collapsed until something happens in its proximity to give it food. Although they act calm and calculating, at 'heart' demons are petty, emotional, and lazy. If made fun of, insulted, ignored, they will sulk, plan elaborate revenge, whine, etc.
Harry's in this form of torpor. Zayn has neglected the thoughts of Harry since his childhood. Too weak to show himself,he pushes himself to keep at least one eye towards Zayn.
Harry feeds off Zayn's emotional thoughts,but only thoughts that are gunned towards him. Since Zayn lost all connection to his memories of Harry,he strives to protect Zayn with the last bit of fight he has in him. And now that Zayn has brought someone close to him and completely forgotten Harry,he's too weak to give it his all.
If he had a heart,he knows it would be shattered to pieces like a broken piece of glass.
