Fear surged through Ariana. She couldn't believe someone had seen her and the king together. She had gotten so caught up with him that she forgot what she was actually doing.
She backed away from the shaken-up king and adjusted her clothes.
But then she realized something. Why was the king so worried about this? Couldn't he just kill the guard? It just didn't make sense to her.
"Ariana," the king said as he also realized what he was doing. "We can't do this," he sighed. "I'm the king. You're a servant." Ariana felt a pang of hurt once he said this. Was she just a servant to him?
"The reason why I'm so worried about the guard is because he can report this. Any connection between a king and a servant is completely forbidden in any kingdom," he explained.
"Can't you just kill him?" Ariana asked without realizing the words that had come out of her mouth. Never in her life had she liked death or the idea of killing. She was always the sweet, innocent girl. But now, something has been changing her. It's almost as if someone had put a curse on her to fall in love with the king. But she shook her head, she couldn't be in love with him.
"It's not that easy, Ariana," he said viciously. "You see, my guards are required to always be loyal to me. But, if I do something that is forbidden, they can easily report it to The Council."
Then it hit Ariana. She had forgotten all about The Council. The Council was a group of retired kings who monitored all the kingdoms in the continent. They have a list of things that kings are forbidden to do. If any of these things are reported to The Council, depending on the circumstances, the king could be cut from his position. And one of those things is having any connection between a king and a servant.
"Well, come on," Ariana said. "We have to get him before he leaves the castle." But the king just shook his head in despair.
"He probably already left on one of the horses," he said angrily. He walked back into the bedroom and Ariana followed. She was a bit confused. He didn't seem like the type of king that would give up so easily. He slammed the doors to the balcony shut and put his robe back on.
"I shouldn't be doing this," he said the familiar words as he looked deeply into Ariana's eyes. Ariana couldn't agree more. She couldn't be having an affair with the king. It was wrong. Why was she doing this? He was the one who had made her life miserable. Day in, day out, she and the other villagers had to live by the king's rules. But Ariana felt something blocking out all the bad things the king had done. And she just couldn't get over the fact that there was some pull between them. She felt it.
"But-" the king started but stopped. Ariana looked at him for a moment, waiting for him to say something. It seemed as if he was holding something behind.
"But what?" Ariana asked curiously.
"Nothing," the king grumbled as he sat down on his large bed. Ariana stayed put and watched him. She wondered what the king was going to say, but she quickly forgot about it. He stared at the floor for quite a while until his eyes met Ariana's once more.
"Come here," he commanded. Ariana nervously walked towards him, her heart beating quickly. He stood in front of him on the bed, their knees almost touching. Ariana stared into the king's hazel-brown eyes. They seemed to sparkle whenever he was looking at her.
"Kiss me one last time," he commanded. The words one last time echoed in her head and she felt something heavy in her heart. Ariana hesitated for a moment, then leaned in to kiss him. The king deepened the kiss and pulled Ariana on his lap. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, but he suddenly pulled away abruptly. Ariana looked at him in confusion.
"This is the last time something like this will happen," the king said sternly "No one will know about this. Is that clear?" Ariana nodded.
"Of course your majesty," she said standing up. "But what about The Council?" The king pressed his lips into a straight line.
"Don't worry about The Council," he said. "They'll probably just send a warning letter or something," he lied. "After all, this isn't the first time I have been reported."
Ariana's heart stopped for a moment. Had he had an affair with a servant before? No, he must've been reported for something else.
"Now go," he grumbled, his eyes turning dark. Before he could get any angrier, Ariana scurried to the doors and opened it very slowly. She peeked her head through the two doors, making sure no one saw her coming out of the king's room. Once she saw that the coast was clear, she scurried away to her room.
When she reached the room, everyone was in a deep sleep. Thankful no one was awake to see her, Ariana slipped into her bed ever so silently.
She stared at the wall, thinking about the king. She thought about his beautiful eyes. About his perfect hair. About the feeling of his touch. Ariana just couldn't get over all these things. And that night, she finally admitted it.
She admitted she was developing feelings for King Justin Bieber.
