He made you feel
Exposed
Indecent
And aloneHe pulled the trigger so you couldn't fight back
He puts on the innocent act
He says he's sorry, but is he really? He plucked the pin off the grenade and left you in an open battlefield
Alone
Scared
And confusedHe said its your own fault
He said you deserve it
He said don't fight back, it will make it worseHe holds the knife that scares you to sleep at night
He bares the hands that make you flinch if they move
He is the one who trys to keep you in line
He is the one who holds the powerYou are the one who is terrified
You are the one who is scared
To move
To eat
To breath
To turn the cornerExpecting the man in a mask
The man that refused to love you
To need you
To want you
To have youWanting to see the man take off the mask
Wanting to see the man who loved you
Who needed you
Who wanted you
But it never happenedIt happens once
It happens twice
It happens three times
Until you loose countThe countless number of times
He Abuses
He Berates
He Strikes
He Kicks and
He HitsThe number of times he said
It won't happen again
I'm sorry
I didn't do it that hard
Get up
Take it like a manUntil you can't move anymore
Until you can't speak anymore
Until he wins the fight because you stoppedNever stop fighting
Never give up
Never take what someone puts on your shoulders
Never let him be the one who holds the powerDomestic violence is silent
Give it a voice before you loose yours

PoetryThis is a poem I've written from the point of view of a women being abused by her husband. I've had it for months and never thought of posting it, but here it is. Please, this is a message for all under the hands of another, speak up and out.
