The next morning during first hour, I sit with Rachel at an empty table. Collin sits across from her and Destiny sits down next to him. The four of us are physically in one place, conversationally in two, and mentally in four.
Rachel and I are talking about the test we have next hour and the incident with her dad yesterday. She's doing better. We overhear part of Destiny's discussion of how she is planning on breaking up with her boyfriend.
Rachel buts in. "Wait you're breaking up with him?" She asks.
I look at Destiny and I read her. She's confused. She loves most qualities of her boyfriend, but there's someone else.
"There's someone else." I accidentally whisper. Shit, what did you do Annabelle. Why can't you keep your mouth shut! I scold myself.
Unfortunately, all three of them heard me.
Collin turns to Destiny. "Who?"
Destiny buries her face in her arms and whispers something to Collin, while Rachel looks confused as to how I knew that.
Rachel opens her mouth to speak, but Collin beats her to it. "You like Lucas James?" He asks her.
My head snaps in their direction. My Lucas?? Wait did I just call him my Lucas? I turn back to Rachel and ask her a question about the test to distract myself.
Over the next few days, things go great with Lucas and I, but I hear a lot of gossip about Destiny and Lucas. It terrifies me and I am not entirely sure why. They both are soccer fans, they both play soccer, they get along great, I'm sure of it. She is everything I'm not and I am terrified. I still get migraines after I leave Lucas, and I can still read that Destiny is getting less and less confused about her feelings each day. She's choosing Lucas, and it's killing me with fear.
